Hail YES!

A year ago, on the Saturday evening of Memorial Day weekend, we got a little rain with softball sized hail.  This year on the monday night of Memorial Day weekend, we got an inch of rain and the ground was covered with pea size hail.  It didn’t damage much but it did destroy the garden plants and Tammy’s flower beds are shredded.  There is now water in the ponds.  The rain gauge only had an inch in it but when combined with the melting hail, water went to running.

The buck pen across the road got hit the hardest.  A flash flood moved through it as it swept panels down and water ran up and into the big green army self feeder.  That was fun cleaning that out.  The water tank in that buck pen was swept downstream and was floating in the pond about an 1/8 mile east of the pens.  Cool.  Duke and I picked up the panels, drove new posts and got things back in order.

All of the goats stayed dry, the calves are all good.  Tammy even had one born right after the storm went through.

We have been seeing a lot of quail pairs.  I fear that this hail may not have been good for them.

I have been trying to stay in a better mood when dealing with does.  This has not worked.  I have a set of does due in June.  I fear that they will have doe kids.  Why?  Because there are currently 38 baby goats around this place right now.  Only 12 of them are bucks.  I would rather raise and sell bucks and wethers.

It is going to green up around here.  Have a good one and a better tomorrow.

Dang Good

Today was kind of a shit show in my world.  But it could always be worse.  At least we woke up to wet ground.  There is now a chance to grow some hay and summer grazing.  Of course, we will need another rain or three.

Yes, Duke is still alive.  No, he was not smarter today.  No, I won’t trade him.  The poor kid is caught in quicksand and he needs to quit struggling.  His mom will agree with that statement.

It is amazing how much the grass greened up from this morning to this evening.  And the wind wasn’t bad.  In fact, we grilled some Usinger brats.  Perfect meal for a dang good evening.  The Dragon Lady and I sat on the picnic table in the front lawn.  There was just enough breeze coming out of the south, that a fellow sitting on the north side of the table could pass gas and the wife, who was sitting on the south side did not catch a whiff.  However, the son that was sitting 10 yards away on the front porch commented that “some feed or hay must have gotten wet.”

Quail pairs surrounded paradise and were calling to each other.  The cows and does all acted a bit better. The litter of kittens in the red barn were stumbling out of the door and trying to crawl back up.  They aren’t tame AND I would like it to stay that way.  I don’t like cats, but I like a cat that I don’t see very often.

No matter a person’s position/place in the goat industry, one is always thinking about one thing….where is the next dang good buck?  I’ve had several dang good ones, but I would always like another dang good one.

I’m going to have to let the tractor sit for a day or two, but then we are going to drill some cover crop seed.  Burning fuel, wearing tires and trying to stay in a good humor.  Farming and goat raising are similar.  Just spending money, getting pissed and hoping that it pays off next year.  Sometimes you look smart, sometimes you feel smart, sometimes you realize that you actually did something right and then sometimes Mother Nature makes everything a little bit better.  Did I mention the quail?

I think that I will end this deal on a different note.  In the words of my dad, “That Shiner Bock is a good beer.”  I’ll have one and hopefully sleep for a bit.

GOD speed, good luck, have a good one and a better tomorrow and then:

Here’s to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking.

If you cheat, may you cheat death.
If you steal, may you steal a woman’s heart.
If you fight, may you fight for a brother.
And if you drink, may you drink with me.

Those Irish are good for cool quotes and toasts.  Cheers!

Dang, Dang, Dang…..pick a better four letter word

We’ve raised one kid.  And, at times, I wonder if I/he/we will survive this next one.  He’s not a bad kid.  He’s a good kid that has his head buried in his ass.  It is so deep that he doesn’t know how to fix it.  I’m sick of paying deductibles, gas bills and stuff not getting done right.  And no, I have not used the word dang very much lately.

I have been reminded of a Jerry Clower story quite a bit lately.  Brief version–Jerry and his relatives were hunting raccoons.  One of them ended up climbing a tree to knock a coon out.  Except, it wasn’t a raccoon.  It was  bobcat.  The guy and the cat were fighting up in the tree.  He hollered down, “Shoot it!”   His kin yelled back, “But we might hit you instead of the cat!”  He yelled back, “Just shoot up in here amongst us.  You will surely hit one or the other.  One of us has got to have some relief.”  I’m to that point.

But dang it.  I ended this evening watching a re-run concert (NO politics) of a tribute to Johnny Cash.  They ended it with The Highwaymen, or what’s left of them, playing “the highwaymen”.  What could be cooler than being on stage, playing with Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson.  Well, being Shooter Jennings and playing your dad’s part.  What could be cooler than cool?  Jamey Johnson playing on a stage with Willie, Kris, Waylon’s son and getting to play Johnny Cash’ part at the tribute to Johnny Cash.

Sometimes, a good song with a bit of chill on the rocks can help the dang go away.  That and don’t let that dang 17 year old mental midget near me till tomorrow.  DANG!!

DANG!!! The power went off last night as I was trying to hit the publish button.  The WIND, the DANG wind went to howling and then and then it started raining.  It actually rained almost an inch!  Finally.  Dang! I spent the morning dumping water out of troughs and feed pans.  I was actually in a good mood about it.  Now, I get to spend time in a tractor.  And since it rained, in a day or two, I will get to doctor little goats with the shits.  Dang!

Tomatoes

I hate eating tomatoes.  I have hated eating tomatoes my WHOLE life.  Ask my parents.  Better yet, ask my brothers that grew up listening to the ordeals involved with making me eat raw tomatoes.  I hate them.  But, I am fine with tomatoes being used in foods as long as they aren’t chunky pieces.

I love a good salsa–NOT chunky, and I dang sure don’t want a tomato taste.  I want it to taste like jalapeño, cayenne or habanero peppers with a touch of onion.  I can’t stand ketchup that tastes like a crappy tomato.  I don’t want a slice of tomato on a burger or sandwich.  Same with a salad.  I don’t want food that has tomato blood all over it.  I am fine with a salad that has cherry/grape tomatoes on it.  That way I can pick them off and give them to a tomato lover.  Diced tomatoes on a salad–keep the salad.

I don’t watch much tv, except between the hours of 2 am and 6 am.  I don’t watch cnn or fox news.  I only occasionally watch the local crap.  Everything is SO sensationalized and not always true.  If the weather is actually bad, the radio or this damn phone will let me know.  Better yet, common sense tells me a lot.  The news should be straight forward and without a political spin.  Not in today’s society.

I do not think that the Trumpster is the greatest person ever.  I DO think that he is better than we have had in a while and that he truly is trying to make things better.  I do think that we have a lot of politicians that we do not need in our daily diet.  They are like tomatoes.  I don’t need them nor want them.  Nancy Pelosi would top this list.  Get that vile thing away from me.

I understand that we need some tomatoes in the house of representatives.  But this one infects the rest of the recipe like a bunch of diced up tomatoes.  How she has gotten elected is beyond me and thus the reason that I don’t want to live near her district.

I could write piles about what I don’t like about her.  But her blatant lack of knowledge when it comes to the Farm Bill and its purpose is staggering.

Then again, everyone involved in agriculture understands that the Farm Bill is NOT about agriculture and is more about food stamps, WIC, nutrition programs, etc, etc, etc.  These politicians use the large $#s associated with the “farm bill” to make voters believe that it is actually about agriculture.  On the other hand, they use the welfare and free programs to sway people to their side.  And those people vote.  Why?  They don’t have jobs and they don’t want to lose their free stuff.  And we aren’t talking about race when I say those people.

You might want to be aware that they are going to make it illegal to slaughter or eat cats and dogs.  Who is this aimed at?  If somebody is that hungry, I don’t care if they eat a dog.  As long as it isn’t my dog.  Who cares if someone from another culture eats a dog?  I don’t.  In Peru, 10% of their total meat intake is guinea pig.  Why?  Because guinea pigs are native there.  It’s like a cajun eating shrimp or gator, someone from New England eating lobster or my fat ass eating some pig, steak or smoked bologna (which may or may not contain guinea pig, labrador and/or goat and mutton),  but Dude, once you season it with some garlic salt and some pecan wood smoke….who cares?   And I tell you what, I’ve had some bad-ass jalapeño goat bologna from Tom & Kerensa Kester.  Ask Dale Cramblett.  He will back me up on that.

Personally, I don’t want to eat a dog.  But, if I had to…Labradors are probably tasty.  Just kidding.  But, in all honesty, I haven’t ever been that hungry.  Some cultures are fine with eating some canine.  I think that I will leave the cat part alone.  You can sit there with your own thoughts.

The horse slaughter ban has not been a good thing for anybody in agriculture.  In fact, it has probably led to an increase in animal cruelty cases.  But peta and the hsus got what they wanted.  And both those organizations have direct ties to the tomato can known as the minority leader of the house of U.S. representatives.

All I really know is that I get to deal with a lot of good kids and good people.  Our country is not as bad as some want to make it to be.  But, when you realize that this clown has supporters, it has to scare you.  You don’t have to be a fan of Trump.  But supporting this rotten tomato scares me.  The attack of the killer tomatoes is not how I want to see this nation end.  I would rather it be in a fight for the common good.  Not a splintering of a once proud nation that uses too much tv news, social media and other resources for its political info.

There are lots of places to blame for the Dumbing Down of America.  But, we can look directly to our media and our politicians.  But in reality, the tomato sauce is on our faces.  You elected these people and you watch these tv channels that support their agendas.

I’m done.

For now.

Great One

“I have the inclination, the maturity and the where-with-all….unfortunately, I haven’t the time.”

Selling—High vs. Cheap

We had an ag ed teacher and a student visit here this evening.  They needed a doe kid or two.  When, I say that we had an ag ed teacher here, I can argue that we had one of the best ag ed teachers that I have ever known.

He had a student that needed a doe kid on a budget.  He actually needed 2 on a budget.  It’s all good.  I could have priced things high and they went elsewhere to buy a doe kid or two.  I could have only sold one.  But no, I sold one on the money and the other way too cheap.  I did throw in the caveat that if they don’t keep them for does, I would like first chance at buying them back.  In reality, I hope that the kid hits a home run and I don’t get a chance at it.

We, the entire goat industry,  have sold wethers and doe kids for too much money.  The WHOLE industry has sold wethers and doe kids for WAY TOO much money. What did the sale average?  What was the top end?  Who got the high seller?   And all of us have got in the habit of worrying about the top end.  And meanwhile, the other economic brackets are looking to spend their money elsewhere.  Why?  Because their dollars will go farther.  Simple economics.

I can say the following as a parent, as an ag teacher, as a breeder and as a “jock”, the goat industry is better off with a whole bunch of people wanting to feed $300 to $700 wethers and doe kids than if we are all trying to peddle a few $5,000 to $10K wethers.  That market is limited and not always as it seems.  And I realize that OK and TX economics are somewhat different.  BUT,  California, Georgia, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois aren’t far behind.  It is simple economics in the goat industry to realize that $1,500 goats propel the industry forward in an economic fashion that even the Trumpster would be proud of.   $10,000 wethers  start to be a limited item.  But DAMN there have been a lot of them online.  I mean, how many of you people have actually seen a Ferrari or a Lamborghini on the streets.

Look at the barrow industry.  It used to be a great deal when a runt $100 pig rang a bell at a major.  Now, that runt found its way into a package deal.  Then got fed and bloomed into a $1, 234 pig.  Now, add another $1, 500 worth of feed and wood chips.  Another $500(minimum)  for the jock fee.  Add entry fees, nomination fees, vet bills, some money for hoof trimming and other crap that has to be done in order to make a pig walk properly.  Factor in another $150 to get that online purchase delivered.  And it would be cheaper to buy a $5,500 steer. Maybe not.  Probably so.

I’m all for anybody being able to cash a check for a product of hard work.  I don’t like listening to whining of breeders and sellers when their stock sells for a fair market price.  And it was less than they wanted.  Fair Market Value is a term that somehow gets lost in the stock show world.  Too many people, in too many positions that are trying to manipulate prices to justify their place in the industry.

Yes, I sold two doe kids tonight to an ag teacher that I respect.  If managed right, neither doe kid will lose money.  If fed and shown right, the kids will be highly competitive.  Sure, if I had the crew wash, clip, photo then I would cash a bigger check.  But….then there would be a pain in the ass of answering an ass-load of questions.  No, I don’t have more pics.  No, I don’t have video.  N0, I won’t personally deliver that goat to the east or west coast for $150.  N0, I won’t guarantee it to win your county fair. (I would if I know that you have a showman and a feed program and who the judge is and who your competitors are and…..)

And in reality, I am well aware, that by selling a couple of goats in a given price range that these exhibitors will do fine, maybe even really good.  Then, they will come back and buy a goat or two.  And win some more.  Then, they will take all of their winnings and go buy a high priced goat from a name brand breeder.  And will have similar or worse results.  I get it.  See professional sports.

I replaced a hydraulic hose on a disk tonight without a major meltdown.  I dealt with doe goats, my son and farming without a huge cussing, throwing things kind of fit.  I’m not mad at anybody.  I am just in a unique perspective that has NO political ties and know what I know which is more than I really want to know.

Sometimes, you just got to move product into a good home.  And hope for the best.  I still remember where my first show pig came from.  Damn sure remember where my best show pig came from.  Will never forget the home of my first show steer.  Nor, will forget the home of my BEST show steer.  I can forever more tell you the prices, amounts and breeders of every animal (goat, pig, chicken or calf) that my kids have shown.  AND results.  It is a curse.

When it comes to selling TOO HIGH or TOO CHEAP, people, I get it.  I live it.

In conclusion, I have never sold a buck TOO HIGH.  I’ve never lost sleep over selling an animal TOO CHEAP.

Random, random, random stuff

The ending credits of the Deadpool movie are kind of different and fun to watch.  Wildly inappropriate but fun.  Of course, that entire movie is inappropriate and fun to watch.

It really burns my butt that a 2nd time doe can’t have kids on her own.  She had triples the first time (2 large ones and a wittle bitty one).  But no, this time around, one of them gets its head backward and plugs up the whole system.  I hate dealing with does.

I went in to Academy today.  I needed a volleyball and a volleyball net.  I quickly found the volleyballs.  And the soccer balls and basketballs.  But no volleyball net.  The basketball nets & goals as well as the soccer balls & goals were right there on the same aisle with the soccer balls, basketballs and volleyballs.  But no volleyball net.  I was going to just leave the store.  But I decided to ask a somewhat live body at the front desk.  He knew that there was volleyball nets somewhere, but not sure where.

Then the manager came by.  He led me right to the aisle with the volleyball nets.  At the opposite part of the store.  On the aisle with horseshoes, croquet and yes, volleyball nets.  But no volleyballs.

I would understand IF all of the volleyball stuff was on the lawn toys aisle.  OR if all of the volleyball stuff was on the ball aisle.  BUT…..

It keeps teasing us with a bit of rain.  West of us about 25 miles got a pile of rain.  But not here.  However, we got an ass-load of wind.  I mean a bunch of wind.  In fact, Sunday morning, we lost 1/2 of the roof of the old big red barn.  I’m going to have to find somebody to replace that because I ain’t crawling up on that tall, steep son-of-a-gun.

Between a new fridge, a new tankless hot water heater and now a barn roof, I am getting sick of spending money on repairs.

Does Atwoods even make an effort to stock anything of decent quality anymore?

Yesterday, the PlasmaCam at school crapped the bed.  It wouldn’t work.  I hate calling PlasmaCam customer support as they have no people skills at all.  I also don’t think that they like it when I call them either.  Their owner’s manual might as well be written in Chinese as hard as it is to read.  But, call I did.

I had already checked every wire, restarted the system, everything that I could think of.  Guess what?  My software is out-of-date so they can’t answer questions.  The jackwads can’t, actually WON’T even answer if the new software will fix the problem.  “Sir, your software is not updated, we won’t provide customer support.”  So, that guy took an ass-chewing because I know of several others that have had the same or similar problem(s).  All he had to do was tell me that by spending $1,995 on a software update that my problem would be fixed.  But NOOOO!

So, I asked what the new software will do to improve the machine if I bought it?  He proceeded to tell me how great the new software update is.  So, I told him that I recently–accidentally installed the software update on my iPhone and that I have a lot more faith in the Apple Company than I do the people at PlasmaCam.  And that software update sucks!   There is stuff on my phone that I do NOT want, need or know how to run.  He actually laughed and understood.

But now, I have a ran a PlasmaCam with the new software.  So, tomorrow we will spend $1,995 on new software.  And if it doesn’t fix the problem……I don’t think that they will like dealing with me.

I stopped at Freddy’s and get a cheeseburger with fries and that jalapeño dipping sauce.  I felt brave so I also got myself a strawberry and banana custard shake.  It was good.  But the impressive thing was the straw.     This straw had a big circumference.  It wasn’t your typical drink straw.  This thing had some capacity and could move chunks of strawberry and banana through it.  Well done Freddys!

We aren’t done kidding.  But, I am trying to decide if we are going to breed for December kids.  I don’t want any Dec. kids but I feel like we should have some.  I don’t know.  Dealing with does make my head hurt.

I think that I will get up and take a blown hydraulic hose off of a disk.  Deal with does or farming?  It would probably be more enjoyable to take two bricks and smash my nuts in between them.

There and back!

People’s evidence #1–the Dragon Lady and I are getting old.  Proof–We decided to get up and make the 3 hour drive to Stillwater this AM.  And we were early for OSU graduation, which started 9 am.

People’s evidence #2–the Dragon Lady and I are getting old.  We came home–the same day.  We went There and back!  Oh, we went and ate lunch, then went to a plant nursery. Then came home.  OFFICIALLY OLD!

We got to Stillwater, drove by Gallagher-Iba Arena and decided to go park by the softball stadium.  This proved to be a wise decision.  As we were getting out of the pickup, I told her to “Come on.  There are the softball girls.”  This meant that we got to see the OSU softball manager, Logan Holt.  We also saw OSU softball player, Chelsea Alexander.  Cool kids.

Yes, the bagpipe and drum corp did lead the graduates.   Yes, the orange plaid kilts are bad ass.  Yes, Tammy and I sat there in that hallowed arena, looking at the list of graduates to see who all we knew.  Yes, once again, Tammy and I realized that we are old.

While sitting there, thinking, I realized that it had been 5 years since Kela graduated in that building.  Then, I did some quick goat math and realized that it had been 25 years since I graduated from that school.  However, I did not graduate in Gallagher-Iba.  Back then, they herded graduates across the football field.  But in May of 1993, it was an absolute flood of rainwater.  So, they held a ceremony for each college in a room or 4 across campus.  I went across in a ballroom in the Student Union.  Lots of friends and family–it was good.  Of course, all of the family was there because that meant that they got to be with a 3 year old Kela.

Yes, it was cool to see Maddie Atha get her B.S.  even though, we are already making plans to go back in a couple of years to watch her become Dr. Maddie Atha, DVM.  But, her younger sister Sarah will graduate college next.  And hopefully, Duke from high school–next year–GOD willing.

OSU alum, Ross Mcknight was the keynote speaker.  Not the clearest speaker but dang good message.  He is very pro OSU.  He gave very simple, direct DOs and DON’Ts to the grads.  But his main message–Don’t smoke!   I loved his quote, “Do not smoke in front of a potential employer.  If you do, you are proving that when given facts, data and info that you will make an irrational decision that is wrong.”  He is right.  He also brought up some cool points about a given day in 1991 in the USA Today newspaper.  I did not know this but remember all parts well.  Cool deal.

We also got to see the likes of Kory Dietz, Jennifer Bedwell, Hannah Darr and Braden Schovanec graduate.  We did meet up with the whole Schoovy clan.  This was a cool experience as Braden looked like a college graduate, Christy looked good, Halie looked good and….and TravASS and Carson both had their hair combed.  I think that it was the first time that I have ever seen TravASS and Carson both…without caps…and hair combed…at the same time.   Tammy took a family picture for the Schoovanec’s.  One thing about it, there is some strong genetics from Christy to provide the looks in those kids.  Good looking kids.  And then there is TravASS.  I remember some story about polishing a turd.  In all honesty, great looking family.  I am really glad that their eldest is an Okie State grad.  Even happier that Halie will be an OSU grad.  Carson is like Duke….we won’t hold our breaths.

It was dang weird after the ceremony.  Tammy was trying to find the rest of the family in order to meet up with them.  She was told, “Your brother Todd is wearing a long sleeve, button up white shirt AND…a ball cap.”   WTH?  We knew that he would have on a clean, white long sleeve shirt.  But a ball cap?  I told Tammy, “I’ve never seen Todd in a ball cap.  I guarantee you that he didn’t buy a ball cap.  It has to be a free one.”  I was right.

Great lunch with the family.  Tammy and her nieces are making fun plans for the summer and future graduations.  Then we went next door and toured a greenhouse/nursery.  Then we spent money there.

We arrived back in paradise, changed clothes and went to doing chores.  I climbed on that fuel efficient 4640 and chiseled the goat pasture.  It was hard but the chisel, for the most part, took the ground.  Good enough that I can drill some cover crop seed with any moisture that may come.

Which brings us back full story…..This winter, I took that John Deere 4640 and a disc into the John Deere dealer in Woodward.  A dealership that I know well.  I told the service department to change all the fluids, filters and fix any leaks.  Fix the blower motor on the AC unit.  Check the AC lines.  Fix the water pump seal.  They then asked what about the lights?  I replied, “The motor has to be good, the AC has to work and I could give two squirts of owl crap about the lights.  If I need lights, I’ll just shut the tractor off and go to the house.”  And that is what I did tonight.  I drove in the dark about 15 minutes, finished the field and realized that I had been there and back in a day.

Twenty five years ago.  It is now over half of my life time ago that I finished at OSU.  I grew up wanting to go to school there.  Then I went there for four years.  (Why did I ever leave?)  Now, 25 years later.  18 growing up, 4 there and 25 later equals 47.  The math adds up.  Throw in Kela’s time there and we are over a 1/2 century of …I’m getting old.  I have been there and back.

Much like the goat biz.  I’ve been there, done it, seen it and now trying to decide if I want to deal with the there and back again.  Have a good one–I did.

Discount Dollar Days

The school year is at the end.  In fact, today was the last day of school.  The greenhouse still has plants.  The kids have told me that I am not allowed to take advantage of the early-order-discounts AND the volume order discounts.  DANG!  We had a lot of plants and we SOLD a lot of plants.  Our little greenhouse was packed.  Therefore, it has been discount dollar days for most of this week and especially the past two days.  Some stuff free, some stuff cheap and some stuff discounted.

And during this time, there have been several does kid around my place.  Twin doe kids seems to be the standard.  Which means in 8 weeks or so, there will be some discount dollar deal days on doe kids.  ”””””””” sorry for the string of apostrophes.  I noticed a spot of BBQ sauce on the key and tried to clean it.  Then decided to leave the result.

There are a lot of graduations going on this week.  I haven’t been to very many since Kela graduated–high school or college.  But one of the favorite nieces is graduating from Okie State with her BS degree.  She got accepted into Vet Med school after her 3rd year of under-grad and she has finished a year of Vet Med, so she gets her BS degree.  Dang Cool Deal.  Oh, and maybe some other people graduate from the great cow college in Stillwater, OK.  When I was at Kela’s OSU graduation, there was a damn cool bagpipe band that opened the ceremonies.  Here’s to me hoping!

I’m also hoping that this damn wind subsides and that it rains in the near future.  Have a good one and a better tomorrow.

Down & Back

Yes, I went on my quick adventure.  Yes, I did it in one day.  No, I didn’t do it alone.

I loaded up and headed south.  Swung by Mutual, OK and picked up Brandon THE Bruce.  He likes to travel and he needed some stuff picked up that wasn’t far from my destination (within 150 miles…close?  sure).  We pulled into Jacksboro, TX about 11:20 am.  We were going to hit the Dairyland before lunch run.  But, but, nobody was there.  They are closed on mondays AND Tuesdays.  Well crap!  So we went back up the road to Hurd’s (Herd’s) burgers.  Unique stop.  Very good, quick, no hassle burgers.  I sat there for a few minutes admiring the no frills, no overhead operation.  And the amount of business and then the quality of burgers.  Good stop.  Then, we headed south some more.

I like good stock.  I’m not racist.  I don’t care what color or species.  I cannot lie.  So, I had to see these Kelly Hair Sheep in real life.  Did I need to buy one?  Yes.  Kind of.  I have a student that likes showing them and has $500 to spend on one.  I told Tammy that I was probably going to have to throw some money in to help out.  I know, I know.  Those of you that saw that sale are now laughing.  And rightfully so.  But, you are also wondering “Were they worth what they brought?”  Yes.  Wicked good set of livestock.  Not good for hairs, not good for sheep–just good livestock.  Sound structured, good lines, plenty of muscle but still have that look like they will get better with feed, maturity and that their best days are still ahead of them.  The bottom end would be in the top end of a class of any major show.  The top end–pick a major and go win it.  Good stock.  I enjoyed looking at this set of animals.

After that, Brandon and I headed down the road and picked up his farming crap.  We made it back to Elk City, stopped and pulled up the sale.  WOW!  Dang!  I’m still in the market for a good hair sheep.  But, it was worth the trip.  One–I love looking at good stock.  Two–I like talking to good stock people.  Three–of course, I like to hit a good eating joint.  Four–I enjoyed seeing somebody, somewhere putting up some wheat hay.  Cuz that ain’t happening in our part of the world.  Five–I like countdowns and top ten lists.  Six–Me and the Bruce travel well together.  I know that he is going to ask questions and he is going to talk about stuff and just keep it real.  He knows that  we are going to find a good eating joint, try to see some good critters and that I can be an A-hole.  It works.  Seven–It was windy headed south and west but we got good mileage coming back north.  Ocho–I’m ready to go fishing.

All–in–all a very good adventure.  Now, I need to find time to stay home and get some doe kids ready to sell.  Why?  Because I LOVE selling doe kids.  Jeeminy, I’ve got too many of these things.  I bet that it will take me a week or three to get geared up.

Have a good one and a better tomorrow.  I did and I will.  You should do the same.  Cheers!
