The following is an email that I recieved from some girl in LA. As you read it, remember that this is my daughter and there are some borderline and some over-the-line smart ass remarks that were directed at me and to not be taken literal.
I like to to do a deep study at beginning of every year and see what movies are currently in production and this year I found an interesting trend…
Is it a coincidence that I am living in Hollywood when they are calling 2014 “The Year of The Bible”???
Probably, but my convicted heart sees it as a direct come to Jesus and am warning you before the mass media tells you (though they have already started) that there is a demand for Jesus in Hollywood but the question at stake is are these films being made for the right reasons and will christians agree with how things are being portrayed?
List of upcoming movies to look out for:
Son of God – Feb. 28, 2014 (a biopic directly spun off from the history channel’s hit miniseries The Bible)
Noah – Mar. 28, 2014 (starring Russel Crowe but stirring up lots of controversy including direct tweets to The Pope…yes, the man really does tweet)
Heaven is for Real – April 16, 2014 (a movie adaptation from the same titled book)
Mary – set to be released April of 2015 and based on the story of Mary and Joseph
Exodus – set to come out Dec. of 2014…a retelling of the story of Moses starring Christian Bale along with other key actors and is directed by Ridley Scott (look up his credits)….This is my most anticipated movie of the year.
This explosion of faith based narratives is due to the massively successful “The Bible” series that we all watched last year. (Dad ask Duke to show you on the DVR)
….Oh and also due to the success of The Bible mini series…NBC asked the creators to do a follow up which is being referred to as A.D.: Beyond the Bible and is set to air during the primetime television schedule in the spring of 2015.
Now I know that this list of movies starts with a movie coming out this week and continues throughout this year and into next but I think it’s interesting how this many biblical blockbusters are coming out and not only are they hitting theaters but are star studded chances of being super successful movies. Not all of them will be a hit but they will most definitely stir up some talk.
I do however realize that the industry is in it for the money but then again…look at the positives that they are promoting! Hollywood can only do so many remakes and super hero movies before they find some other stories to base things on and what better than a whole book full of stories and people that they can spend years talking about – Moses, Joseph, David, Job, Jesus, etc.
This was just a thought to ponder from a random civilian currently residing in California but for some reason I felt the need to share. Watch some of these movies when they come out. I’m excited to see what comes of them.

Peace and Blessings,
The Prodigal Daughter
As a Dad, I’m tickled to get an e-mail like this from my daughter. However, I don’t need Duke to show me on the DVR. I already watched most of the episodes on “real” tv.
I’m not some bible thumper. I obviously and admittedly do some things wrong but I do know that there is a higher power. I won’t tell you what to believe and you damn sure don’t want to try to tell me what to believe. Kela has probably had a little different religious upbringing than most. I am Catholic and Tammy is Baptist. The kids have attended both churches, as well as others with friends. I’m not going to argue which religion is right or wrong, but our kids do understand that there is a GOD and the power of prayer.
Now, as a Dad with a daughter in effing hollywood, I/we routinley pray for her safety, well being and ability to stay away from the sins of the world. As you can see, I really don’t have much to worry about. Also, I am pretty sure that using the F word to preface the word hollywood is not cussing.
On the other hand, I wonder if somebody had a glass or two of wine before hitting send? If so, it was cheap wine. I’ve seen her bank account. Of course, these blogs become better reading after I have had one or three. No matter. I’m just happy to know that we raised a kid with a functioning brain and a strong work ethic. I’m even happier knowing that Duke’s hero is his big sister. He too will be alright.
Here’s to our favorite daughter, no matter where she is living. I’m also really glad that she got her first paycheck from the Amazing Race people. Cheers.
I find it ironic that hollywood is going the religious route at this time. I don’t think that it is a coincidence that the Duck Dynasty crew kept GOD/JESUS front and center of every episode, it worked and hollywood paid attention.
GOD bless and good luck to all. I think that I too will have a glass of wine.
