Pure vs. NOT

Posted on October 26, 2013

This is an ongoing question that is not relegated to the goat industry.  Which  is better 1) to raise purebreds or 2) to raise a crossbred?  To me the answer is simple.  I don’t want any part of raising purebred goats.  Why?  First, and foremost, I am geared towards the wether shows.  So that removes the purebreds.  Raising purebreds should be focused on raising seedstock.  Which means that the does will have value

There is a reason that these kind of deals are called a BLOG.  That is the sound that is made when the lack of intelligience caused by the writer creates a vacuum in the atmosphere as a result of causing people to utilize more oxygen than normally needed.  BLOG.  Here we go.      I got my foundation doe online sale purchase picked up last night.  Steve McEowen met me at OKC

Forget

Posted on October 22, 2013

It is a known fact that I get too many irons in the fire.  I help others with their goats and they sometimes forget to remind me that we have a goat or two that needs sold or shown.  Thus the wether that will be on the Working Clothes Online sale today.  I saw this wether back about labor day when he had been weaned a week or so and was pretty skinny.

Bugs

Posted on October 21, 2013

Friday night and Saturday morning was pretty cold.  There was ice on the water tanks.  There were dead caterpillars lying underneath the trees.  The freeze had zapped them.  Flies and wasps did not die, however.  It seems that the freeze just sent a signal that their days are numbered.  Every where I went this weekend, wasps were buzzing around all over the place.  They weren’t in attack mode, but they were very

Survived the Big Willy sale.  Thanks to all of the buyers and bidders on this sale.  These goats are getting really good new homes.  WIlly is going to the Ok/Tx panhandle.  Our crew will be showing some willy good goats out of Willy next year.  The bred does all went to good homes.        I saw some interesting stuff at the Perry Livestock Auction on Thursday evening.  Like the Lamancha buck

Online

I kind of understand the value of an online sale.   I dang sure understand the downsides of an online auction.  They are going to continue to grow in popularity.  Unlike most breeders, I also purchase stuff online & sight unseen–tractors, goats, pigs, cattle, etc.  It is an adventure.  I’ve yet to be screwed, have been somewhat disappointed a time or two and been pleased the rest of the time and the jury

Weekend

Big fun weekend.  Duke & I traveled to Perry saturday morning for the Cherokee Strip showback.  Perfect weather and a good turn out with some really good goats.  We had to get home in a hurry as we needed to go to a social function in Woodward on Saturday evening.  The Taylor’s & Kelln’s all piled into the ’93 Chevy Van and went to the NRA banquet.  This deal was packed to capacity.

I wanted to go to Pfeiffer’s sale tonight, but there were too many obstacles to trip over and be there on time.  So, our crew had a new bidder standing in.  Hopefully, he did well.  We’ll see.      It’s homecoming at Shattuck on this fine evening.  I’m out.  Duke was way in.  I did make him take his sunglasses off before he left.  You can only wear so much retarded stuff on

Need Part Two

Posted on October 11, 2013

I got up from the earlier post, because I NEEDED to, in order to preserve my place in this piece of paradise.  Either, my son or myself was going to be dragon fodder.  Beings as how my youngest offspring was the cause of the problem, I took the brunt of the flames (I’m thinking ahead.  That, and I am borderline flame RETARDant.)  Duke and I spent the next 20 minutes working on vocabulary
