Fat

Posted on October 24, 2017

This is not a point aimed at any one show, animal or person.  This is just a general observation that has came from several years. There has been a growing trend in the show ring.  Goats are getting fatter.  We are feeding them to be fatter and then spending several days before show day hardening them up.  Either way, winning goats are fatter than they have ever been.  This is just a trend that happens

Went to Play

Posted on October 23, 2017

Last Wednesday, as we were trying to leave for KC, things just didn’t fall into place.  I needed daylight to look at cattle on my way.  I also had to load and deliver several wethers along the way.  Duke had one goat sheared, a 64 pounder.  I said, “Load him and let’s go.”  Basically, we went to KC just to play.  Mission accomplished. Danny Edwards Blvd. BBQ, 801 Chophouse, Rockstar Burgers, spook houses, our first

Another reason

I’ve got another reason to not like the nfl.  This morning about 2 am, I watched an ESPN 30 for 30.  It was one that had aired a month or so ago but I hadn’t seen it.  It was about the nfl players strike in 1987 and the team of scab players that the washington redskins put together. These guys were the basis for the movie “The Replacements”.  I like that movie. It’s kind of

Hoffman

I’ve always liked Dustin Hoffman’s characters in movies.  Little Big Man–great one.  Tootsie–Who knew that 1982 movie was just a prelude to the cross-dressing, trans-, metro-sexual, whatever the hell we have currently going on in our society .  At least he had a goal and the movie was funny.  Plus, Bill Murray was in that movie.  But, my favorite is probably The Graduate.  That movie was the bomb.  He was lost in life, mom and

If you can, look up Mike Rowe’s posts on Facebook.  Yes,  that is the Dirty Jobs guy.  I like following this guy.  He gets it.  His latest post about farmers is good.  Wicked Good!  The U.S. farmer provides the most abundant, safest and healthiest food supply that the world has ever seen and does it on less land and with more restrictions and requirements.  He brings up the point that EVERYTHING on the news affects

What the ….?

Posted on October 09, 2017

This blog has been online for six + years.  There are over 1200 posts on here.  It works out to about 4 posts per week.  Some weeks have been more prolific than others (in all things, not just dispensing crap). I often think about pulling the plug on this deal as it isn’t easy to come up with stuff to write about.  By the time you delete some content, keep it clean and yeah, that

Been a week

Posted on October 07, 2017

I hadn’t been near the keyboard for over a week.  Been at Tulsa for part of that week.  Getting ready to go back again.  We didn’t show much stock this time.  In Shattuck, with fast-pitch softball and football, these kids have enough going on this time of year.  We will be ready to show later. Speaking of softball, Shattuck is playing in the state finals this afternoon.  They are facing off against Arnett.  Two towns,

In groups of 3

Posted on September 29, 2017

For years, I have heard that death comes in groups of 3.  Maybe this only works for small-town newspapers.  I don’t know.  And I don’t know what to expect around here.  Why? Well, we lost K9 last week and I’ve been expecting another one to be done.  But not the one that I found dead under the red barn.  B22, the last Harley daughter, was dead this evening.  She had raised some good ones.  Banner

nf what?

Posted on September 27, 2017

I haven’t been a big fan of the nfl since Earl Campbell quit playing for the Houston Oilers.  I have always enjoyed the highlights, kept tabs of the former Okie State players and I watched the super bowl commercials.  I don’t own any nfl jerseys, tshirts, caps or other paraphernalia that they sell.  I have not been a big supporter–I just really didn’t care.  Same with the nba.  Simply put, I would rather watch college

2010

The name of the game in the show goat industry is and always has been bucks.  If you have a bonafide producer of a buck, then you’re going to have fun.  Plus, you need a lot of bucks to gather those quality of bucks. In 2010, we had built a herd founded on Turner, Harbour, Powell/Holman and Kelly females.  I had used the Harley buck from Kelly and the X Factor buck from Powell/Holman to
