Punksy Phil

Posted on February 02, 2017

I just watched those dudes in top hats and tails drag a groundhog out of his hole on Gobbler’s Knob.  According to them, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, so here we go with 6 more weeks of winter. I guess Feb. 1 was a holiday as well.  Some people get a little bit too excited about national football signing day.  This is kind of liking declaring a major show winner on sale day.  There is

Monday, Monday, Monday

Posted on January 31, 2017

I am back among the living.  I spent all of last week trying to keep from getting this flu bug.  Last Monday hit me hard as I was SORE!  But I though that it was a result of running a chain saw, hauling limbs and being fat and out of shape.  By Monday evening, I felt rough.  Over the next couple of days, I made it through the day.  Then back home to crash for

Good Stuff

Posted on January 26, 2017

I’ve had several calls the past week or two wanting to know what to use to add some cover to their wethers.  There are several options that we like to use.  1–Up the GO juice.  2–Glu-Coat–the cattle glu-coat.  This stuff will help appettites and will add cover.  Better be careful because too much will get them spongy.  3–High Noon brand Shine Em Up.  Used heavily in the sheep ring.  It will add cover.  It’s all

And on the 8th day…

Posted on January 23, 2017

we got power back on.  Only 8 days without electricity.  Sure, it was a bit of an inconvenience and I have spent a pile on gasoline for the generator, but it really wasn’t that bad.  Hats off to the crews that have been working to get the power back on for this part of the world.   Several things have happened during this power outage.  At some point in time, the Russians hacked this website.

Next Time

Posted on January 18, 2017

We have a lot of large 40-60 year old Elm trees around our place.  Every time that we have a wind storm or ice, I get to haul off a lot of branches.  Every time this happens, I tell Tammy, “Next time, I am buying a grapple for the tractor.”  Well, next time is here.  I bought one and used it just long enough to clear the road.   Next time there is a storm

Vanilla Ice

Posted on January 14, 2017

It is a crappy song but I still kind of like it.  You know the song “Ice, Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice.  It is a catchy ditty.  Ding, ding, ding, da, da, ding, ding.   The Ice Armageddon finally hit OK on this fine day.  Thankfully, it wasn’t near what the media had predicted.  It was actually a Vanilla Ice storm.  Pretty basic.  Thank goodness, there is no wind.  We’ve got about a 1/4″ of

I watched an actual episode of Law & Order SVU tonight. I had only really watched reruns on USA channel at 4am. Cool. I do have a new favorite TV show. Forged in Fire on the history channel. This is a well made reality program that shows people using blacksmith skills. It’s pretty cool. I guess there was a goat show in Denver today.

I was cruising the internet on this fine evening, trying to do a bit of research to help a kid with a speech topic.  One of the items that we were looking for has to do with America’s favorite condiment.  For decades, it was ketchup (catsup, if you prefer) that occupied the top spot.  But, several years ago, salsa overtook the throne.   When dealing with hot dogs, there is only one decision–ketchup or mustard?

A Warm 10 degrees

Posted on January 07, 2017

It was cold this morning.  10 degrees is what the pickup and the tv both said.  The ground was covered with a very powdery, very dry snow.  Maybe 2 or 3 inches.  I went about chores and getting fresh water to all of the stock.  I made it back in and Tammy told me that she was going to let Duke sleep in.  I was like “WTH?”  She said, “They cancelled school.”  Now, I was

2017–A Good Start

Posted on January 03, 2017

The new year is here, and so far, it has been a very pleasant year.  The wind did NOT howl on the 1st and the weather was absolutelty perfect in NW OK on the 2nd.  I’m talking short sleeves, no wind, awesome evening kind of weather.  But the wheels will fall off in a day or two. Duke and I were out of school on the 2nd, so we went to Cleo Springs to pick
