Thoughts from Kelln

Posted on March 27, 2020

Not just another Thursday.  This day brings milestones to the Kelln piece of paradise.  Today, brings the anniversary since I last drank a soda pop.  I wasn’t addicted but I did like a jazzed up Mountain Dew.  Nothing for the last year.  It’s amazing how a hip out of place will change your life.  I now drink a LOT of water and I pee A LOT!!! I moved a doe with twin kids out of

Tough Swimming

I will be honest.  The last several days have kind of kicked the heck out of me.  No, I haven’t had classes but I have been busy with this ag teaching gig.  The Shattuck school administration has been busy trying to prepare for this shit-show that we are currently experiencing.  This is a time of year when I am happy to be busy–kids working on CDEs, speeches, getting ready for convention and banquet–all while gathering

Corona….not here!

Posted on March 23, 2020

I haven’t had a Corona in years. While in quarantine, we did wash, clip and photo a bunch of yearling bucks as well as some winter born kids.  I really like one of these bucks.  He is the biggest chested, busted open ribcage, squarest racked and big center loined deals that I have ever handled.  I like him. Friday night, I gave a speech to Blaine Rue about growing your own.  Grow your own customers,

2 N the same day

I have not been the most prolific blogger for the past couple of months.  There has been plenty to write about but I haven’t made time.  Now, I have time. Several OYE stories. On the Saturday morning of the doe show, one of my prize 8th graders had washed and dried his doe.  He was standing in the middle of the busy aisle that leads from one barn to the next.  He waited until it

So, so many thoughts.  It’s been a long, long, long time since I’ve had any kind of spring break.  Now, I guess I’ve got one until April 6. Huge thank you to all of the crew that runs the Oklahoma Youth Expo.  They were doing their very, very best to get through this show.  The current climate in the world is what finally shut them down. Sunday evening, I knew that the plug was getting

Pray. Pray for our kids. Pray for our way of life. Pray for our troops. Pray for agriculture. Pray for common sense. Pray for each other. Pray for our leaders. Pray against evil. Pray for our nation. Pray for our future.   I’ve only got one thing to say. It is time to pray.

Sunday and Monday, I was in OKC.  We got Duke shipped off.  I sent a trailer to OYE with equipment to get setup.  Now, on Tuesday.  I head back to OYE.  The marathon has begun.

We’re off!!

Posted on March 08, 2020

When I hit the publish button, I am getting in a vehicle and heading to OKC.  We will drop Duke off with the Marines tonight.  Tomorrow morning we will see him before he departs to the airport.  He can take $20, 3 business cards, a small bible and the clothes that he is wearing. Pray for him and the others that have taken up the pledge to serve and protect the US of A!!

Day off?!?!

Posted on March 07, 2020

I wish and I need one.  But this Saturday will be busy helping kids get ready for OYE.  I leave on Sunday for that almost 2 week vacation.  I will make at least 5 trips back and forth from OKC to Shattuck during that time.  Getting health papers, hauling equipment and stock and organizing people is a job. Personally, I need to process some babies, move some cattle and does as well as fill feeders.

Thoughts, Endings, Beginnings, WTH??

Posted on March 05, 2020

I have a lot of thoughts about the livestock industry and the show stock industry in particular.  Not now.  My mind isn’t right to hit publish on these thoughts.  These thoughts are best discussed sitting on a bucket, leaning on a fence or walking/talking stock. I have survived another Woodward District Jr. Livestock Show.  We did not have the most animals in the premium sale (we did well, but…), we dominated the ag mechanics shows
