Thoughts from Kelln

Posted on December 20, 2012

It got just a little bit windy last night.  The cool thing about that was the fact that a crew showed up to put a new roof on the Kelln Kompound.  The roofer and I were both unaware of the wind that was in route to this part of the world.  The amazing thing is that crew showed up about 9 am and was done by 3 pm.  Don’t see any problems with the new

Doe Hate part 2

Posted on December 19, 2012

A fine example of why I hate does happened this morning.  Duke and I gathered all of the does into the corral right after daybreak.  We sorted them into two groups.  One to stay in the pasture and another group to be penned next to Rumour.  Once sorted, the pasture does were turned back into the pasture with Fade2Black.  The other does were put into a trap with 11 wire barb wire and

I’m always looking for new tools.  Not wrenches, sockets and pliers.  I’ve got plenty of those kind of things and I don’t like to use them.  Just tools to make my life easier.  Presently, I am dealing with a pile of new tools.  We had to get a new computer.  Kela talked me into getting a Mac instead of a PC.  Right now, I don’t like the keyboard.  We will see if I

Does and the word HATE

Posted on December 18, 2012

I hate them.  I like dealing with baby goats, showing wethers and don’t mind dealing with bucks.  But does…I hate them.  Every time I think about selling out and walking away just happens to coincide with me having to deal with does.  I guess my best idea of raising goats would consist of somebody else having the does and I come get the babies when they are weaned. If I could figure out

This word could mean a lot of different things— Gathering money at mass on Sunday, gathering money for your local stock show fundraiser, gathering money for equipment sales, etc.  If it doesn’t rain this winter, the word collections on equipment might lead to reposessions.  I hope not.       In the livestock world, it means collecting semen on your studs.  On Wednesday, I hauled four bucks to REI at Stillwater to get them collected.  Rumour Has

Much like an eclipse, once a year, the great American legend–Jim Rhodes–calls me with a story.  He lives a pretty quiet life most of the time, but every so often, something fun happens.  Then he knows who to call.  So, last night, Big Jim calls me from Chicago.  He was just leaving the Billy Goat Tavern and Grill.  Knowing Jim, he was there for the grill part.  Me, it would have been for both.

Bo knows…

Posted on December 10, 2012

that it is dang cold outside today.  At least the wind isn’t howling like a gut shot comanche.      Saturday night, I watched the ESPN 30 for 30 special about Bo Jackson.  I have watched several of these programs and they are very well done.  The best one was the Pony Excess about the SMU scandal in the eighties.  This one about Bo Jackson was very well done.  A lot of people don’t remember just

Good morning

Posted on December 08, 2012

It’s another Saturday morning.  Little bit nippy outside, but it sounds like its going to be a whole lot nippy the next day or two.  Better put 2 or 3 blankets on the wethers.  I would recommend blanketing does as well.       I was the only one at home last night, which meant I had to fend for myself.  Therefore, I headed to Gage.  This isn’t the cleanest town in the world, but they

Is there a more hated thing to write a check for than insurance?  I’m trying to redo insurance on our house, but it’s hard to get a price unless they also get your auto insurance.  But some companies don’t really want me on their insurance as I got a well-publicized driving award a few years back.  Somebody backed into my pickup and messed up a quarter panel, bumper and in turn the tailgate.  I’m

I caught the end of one of my favorite movies last night, McClintock!  Like every true American, I am a John Wayne fan and I love a comedy.  That is a goofy movie, but I love it.  I like how so many of the actors in his movies have roles in all of his movies. They might be a drunk in one movie, a cowboy in another and an indian in another.  But what I
