{"id":4818,"date":"2022-07-31T20:47:06","date_gmt":"2022-07-31T20:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=4818"},"modified":"2022-07-31T20:47:09","modified_gmt":"2022-07-31T20:47:09","slug":"prayers-answered-more-needed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/prayers-answered-more-needed\/","title":{"rendered":"Prayers Answered &#038; more needed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A whole lot of this country has been needing a rain.\u00a0 Some more than others.\u00a0 Those of you from I-35 east in Oklahoma and a lot in the midwest truly do not know what dry is.\u00a0 Sure, you&#8217;ve been drier than what you are used to but not like some of us.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And after driving down around Stephenville, TX this past weekend, I feel a bit guilty.\u00a0 Those fields and pastures are flat burnt up.\u00a0 Ponds are dry.\u00a0 It is brutal.\u00a0 Keep praying for the rest of the country that still needs a rain.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Friday morning, we got about 1\/2 an inch.\u00a0 A couple of miles away, they got over 2&#8243;.\u00a0 I was happy to get the 1\/2 inch.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Saturday morning we got another 1.1&#8243;\u00a0 And then Sunday morning it came down hard.\u00a0 2.2&#8243;\u00a0 The land is soaked and the ponds have water.\u00a0 There is a GOD!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 In areas like NW OK that are commonly drought stricken, there is not a better hay crop than Hegari.\u00a0 Once you get it sprouted, that stuff can hold on until moisture shows up.\u00a0 I had some soil moisture when I planted it.\u00a0 It sprouted good and has just been holding on.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t look good and it was definitely stressed.\u00a0 The backsides of terraces were beginning to die off.\u00a0 Yet, it has bounced back with the moisture.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I normally plant a mixture of Hegari, Red Ripper cowpeas, German millet and collard greens.\u00a0 And I let the crabgrass grow up with it.\u00a0 This year, I took advice from &#8220;my&#8221; crop consultant&#8211;Brandon the Bruce.\u00a0 I changed to a different variety of cowpea that has similar characteristics as Hegari.\u00a0 He was right.\u00a0 My collard greens have died off.\u00a0 The German millet is dead in some place but the Hegari and peas will make some hay.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 <strong>\u00a0 People, I have to head to summer conference.\u00a0 Can&#8217;t WAIT!!\u00a0 I hope that those in charge actually have something worthwhile.\u00a0 Trust me, Oklahoma ag teachers have been in an informational drought when expecting something positive from our state department.\u00a0 If this drought continues, this will be another waste of tax payers money as well as a waste of teachers time.\u00a0 For the past several years\u00a0 (think of Johnny Cash counting the year models of his &#8220;One Piece at a Time&#8221; Cadillac) since we had a conference that was more than an email.\u00a0 I&#8217;m hoping it is worthwhile.\u00a0 If not, Troy B and the DJ&#8217;s crew will have still have us a shrimp boil.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thank the Good LORD!\u00a0 And have a blessed day.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A whole lot of this country has been needing a rain.\u00a0 Some more than others.\u00a0 Those of you from I-35 east in Oklahoma and a lot in the midwest truly do not know what dry is.\u00a0 Sure, you&#8217;ve been drier than what you are used to but [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4818"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4818"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4818\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4819,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4818\/revisions\/4819"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4818"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4818"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4818"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
