\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0When Kela turned 21, we asked her what she wanted for her birthday.\u00a0 She replied, “A family vacation that doesn’t involve a stock show, John Deere meetings or ag teacher meetings.”\u00a0 So, we went to Costa Rica.\u00a0 It was a phenomenal trip.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 As part of the adventures, we went zip lining through the jungle canopy.\u00a0 Fun.\u00a0 Tammy had a goal.\u00a0 She wanted her family picture put in the Eskimo Joe’s catalog.\u00a0 She bought special t-shirts for all four of us.\u00a0 And then when we were all on one of the platforms high up in the jungle, she had our picture taken.\u00a0 All 4 of us in our Joe’s shirts and all of our zip lining safety gear.\u00a0 She submitted the picture and sure enough the Kelln Krew ended up with our photo in the Eskimo Joe’s catalog.\u00a0 Woohoo!\u00a0 No free cheese fries or shirts.\u00a0 I could have cared less.\u00a0 I don’t even know if she kept a copy of the catalog.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The other part of that zip lining adventure was the really long, steep line that you could really zip.\u00a0 Before we started down this part of the zip line, the guides really stressed all of the safety features and how to properly slow yourself down.\u00a0 Use your gloves as a brake and slow down.\u00a0 If you don’t, you will be going to fast at the end and the guides will get out of the way and let you hit the tree.\u00a0 They reiterated these points numerous times.\u00a0 I got it.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Two guides went first and were waiting at end of the line.\u00a0 I then went.\u00a0 WOW!\u00a0 You could really haul some donkey.\u00a0 It was a really long line.\u00a0 I didn’t see any monkeys like the brochure promised.\u00a0 However, the howler monkeys were howling as I went through the trees.\u00a0 \u00a0Just as I had been instructed, I slowed myself down several times.\u00a0 As I neared the end, I slowed way down and then stepped onto the landing platform.\u00a0 No problem.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Duke came next.\u00a0 He went to get going really fast, then slow way down.\u00a0 He did this numerous times.\u00a0 He got to the end, slowed way down and the guides caught him and helped him unhook.\u00a0 And then here came Kela.\u00a0 Just as she does everything in life, all out.\u00a0 Flying, not slowing down at all…….until the very last instant.\u00a0 She braked and stepped right onto the landing platform.\u00a0 Perfect!<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0And then came the Dragon Lady.\u00a0 She was hauling butt.\u00a0 And as she neared, we could all see that she didn’t have a hand on the cable.\u00a0 She wasn’t slowing herself down.\u00a0 And she was picking up speed.\u00a0 Both kids and I were yelling for her to slow down.\u00a0 But she wasn’t listening.\u00a0 The guides started yelling as well.\u00a0 We were all on the edge of the platform, yelling and waving for her to slow down.\u00a0 As she neared, we could see the fear in her eyes but she wasn’t doing anything about it.\u00a0 Grab the damn cable!!!\u00a0 The guides got out of the way.\u00a0 I stood there, prepared to catch her.\u00a0 \u00a0One of the guides was pulling my arm. But like a matador, I too stepped aside.\u00a0 And wham!\u00a0 She hit the tree.\u00a0 She should have paid attention to the instructions.\u00a0 She wasn’t hurt too bad.\u00a0 Maybe a bruise.\u00a0 But I guarantee you two things–1–she will follow instructions next time.\u00a0 And 2–it was a good thing we had already taken that dang picture.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Raising goats is a lot like the four of us.\u00a0 Some breeders go hard, but follow instructions and practice some safety and patience.\u00a0 Some are cautious and conservative like Duke.\u00a0 Some are like Kela and go way in, way hard, way fast and then end up properly at their goal point.\u00a0 And some don’t follow any advice and go until they hit the tree.\u00a0 It all works.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
