\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I didn’t have time, so I made time, to haul a crew to the Seiling FFA welders rodeo.\u00a0 I wasn’t thrilled about the timing of it but I will support other ag teachers that are trying to do an activity that expands opportunities for kids.\u00a0 I’m glad that we went.\u00a0 Not because Shattuck kids did well, but because all of the kids said that it was worthwhile.\u00a0 And in case you forgot, that is what actually matters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0AND while on the ag teaching note, ag teachers that don’t do much except show stock had better change.\u00a0 As stock shows have drastically changed, ag teachers have been left behind.\u00a0 You may not like me (and I don’t care if you do or not) but my stock show resume is possibly better than yours and I can tell you, without a doubt, that most students, parents, administrators and the general public does not give much credence to JUST showing livestock.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The crew of kids that I hauled were playing music over the suburban speakers from THEIR phones.\u00a0 AC\/DC, Credence, Foreigner, Waylon……who am I to tell them to not play that kind of music?\u00a0 \u00a0I asked why they didn’t play any new stuff.\u00a0 \u00a0Uhh, the replies included…..new country sucks, new rock sucks and rap sucks.\u00a0 Wait?\u00a0 What?\u00a0 \u00a0Not all rap sucks!\u00a0 I kind of like some rap or hip\/hop music.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Now, I can argue that when some of the greatest hip\/hop songs are a knock off song, that the genre has an issue.\u00a0 It’s kind of like showing a Dorset sheep.\u00a0 It can be good but you know it isn’t going to be grand.\u00a0 My point–“Ice Ice Baby” is a knock off from Queen\/David Bowie.\u00a0 “Can’t Touch This” is a knock off from “Superfreak” which was kind of hip\/hop.\u00a0 Now that I type this, I think a hair sheep is more appropriate analogy.\u00a0 You know it ain’t a purebred but you really don’t care what it’s crossed with as long as it doesn’t look like a deep chested, brisket protruding, fine boned, thik hided, off hipped Dorper.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

I like Tone Loc, LL Cool J, Eminem, Rob Van Winkle (his one song), some of Public Enemy, some of Snoop and Dre as well as the catchy tunes of Notorious B.I.G.\u00a0 I’ve not been a fan of Tupac.\u00a0 I do like a song or two of Jay Z.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Two weeks ago, I told a class to follow me into the shop.\u00a0 I used the lame joke, “Let’s do like Aerosmith and “Walk this Way”.\u00a0 They didn’t get it.\u00a0 I asked if any of them had heard of Aerosmith?\u00a0 Run DMC?\u00a0 \u00a0NO!!\u00a0 \u00a0I’m not sure if they are really young, their parents have done a poor job or if I’m just old……the answer is…All of the above.\u00a0 Those 8th graders have now heard Aerosmith AND Run DMC.\u00a0 One of them even told me that XM radio needs to play this kind of music.\u00a0 UUUhhhhh……channel 39 & 38……for starters.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
