\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0After Tulsa.\u00a0 Now, as an ag teacher, I can get on with the rest of my year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Historically, this is my most hated show.\u00a0 I don’t like where it sits on the calendar.\u00a0 I don’t like the fairgrounds.\u00a0 I normally don’t like showing there.\u00a0 Even though, in years past, we have had some big fun.\u00a0 Like winning all 6 goat divisions in one year.\u00a0 Winning broiler chicken shows.\u00a0 As well as some sheep, cattle and hog banners.\u00a0 We’ve been close to winning the livestock judging contest (1 point away).\u00a0 But, that is all in the past.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Now, when I go to the Tulsa State Fair,\u00a0 I just always feel like I lose a week of my life.\u00a0 Except, now it costs more to attend.\u00a0 Even ag teachers have to buy a gate pass, a parking pass and a trailer parking pass.\u00a0 And wow!\u00a0 \u00a0That trailer parking area was outstanding.\u00a0 Kudos.\u00a0 That parking place should be good for selling or repairing tires.\u00a0 Lots of extra iron and broken concrete.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Seriously, it would be way cooler to have Tulsa in March.\u00a0 Two majors in the same month.\u00a0 Just sayin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Today, I saw a little boy with a lemonade stand.\u00a0 Main street Shattuck, just a couple of houses north of the hospital.\u00a0 I don’t know, a kid that is maybe 6 or 8 years old.\u00a0 Did not know him.\u00a0 Did not know the grandma helping him.\u00a0 I just saw the stand and his crappy little sign that was flapping in the wind.\u00a0 I pulled over and asked, “Dude, what are you selling today?”<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0He replied, “Mister, I’ve got lemonade.\u00a0 Some apple bread and I had some banana bread but I sold out.”\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
I asked, “Did you make it?”\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 “Yes.\u00a0 Kind of.\u00a0 My Mimi helped me.\u00a0 Well, she made it for me and I’m trying to sell it.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
I opened my wallet, thinking that I would pull out a five-er and call it good.\u00a0 Well crap!\u00a0 A $20 was as small as I had.\u00a0 So, I handed him a $20 and asked for a little dixie cup of lemonade.\u00a0 This little turd went to jumping up and down.\u00a0 His grandma came out to check on the sales transaction.\u00a0 “YES!!\u00a0 This guy gave me twenty bucks for a glass of lemonade.\u00a0 Yes!!”\u00a0 I did not know her.\u00a0 In Shattuck America.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0She asked if I wanted a loaf of apple bread.\u00a0 I declined.\u00a0 I really just stopped to check this deal out and help a kid that was making an effort.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I did not do anything new or original.\u00a0 \u00a0I just liked the thought of some youngster trying to make a buck.\u00a0 Let’s be real.\u00a0 I can piss away a $20 real quick at a stock show, goat sale, quick stop or the damn Tulsa State Fair.\u00a0 And compared to the amount of $s that you’re damn government steals from me & you in the form of taxes…..this was money well spent.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And since it is only Saturday evening, Tulsa is NOT over.\u00a0 \u00a0Damn!!\u00a0 I will leave early in the morning to go back to Tulsa to pickup ag mechanics projects, ag comm entries and hort stuff.\u00a0 \u00a0I can’t wait to pay some turnpike tolls and get another little crappy piece of paper called a “release” so that I can gather our stuff and leave.\u00a0 I hope to remember to get our plaques and ribbons.\u00a0 And since we are talking stock shows and Tulsa, I did not like their new grand drive.\u00a0 Well, I liked most of it but I hated the “interviews” that happened as soon as the judge made their selection.\u00a0 Too intrusive and too contrived.\u00a0 Interviewer was too aggressive.\u00a0 \u00a0That part did not work.\u00a0 Give the kids, the families and their groups time to enjoy the win.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
