{"id":4487,"date":"2021-08-12T02:03:37","date_gmt":"2021-08-12T02:03:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=4487"},"modified":"2021-08-12T02:03:39","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T02:03:39","slug":"next-chapter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/next-chapter\/","title":{"rendered":"Next Chapter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 I would consider myself a life-long learner.\u00a0 I&#8217;m always on the lookout for something new.\u00a0 Personally, I think that we all should be.\u00a0 Some are, some not so much.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Believe you me, I screw up more than most.\u00a0 But I immediately fix it and then try to always do better going forward.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not perfect.\u00a0 But I dang sure try to always improve my statistics.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I enjoyed things about high school. I enjoyed a lot about college.\u00a0 Even though I learned more in my first year of teaching than what I learned in 4 years of college that was supposed to be teaching me about teaching.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I can distinctly remember some PI meetings where I learned a specific item.\u00a0 There has even been a session or two at summer conference where I actually learned something.\u00a0 I have been to summer in-service trainings where I learned a little and some where I learned a lot.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 When comparing careers&#8211;selling John Deere vs. teaching&#8211;without a doubt, John Deere is WAY ahead of the educational world when it comes to educating.\u00a0 Seriously, that company knows how to educate their people about their products.\u00a0 New product intros were entertaining yet educational.\u00a0 Specific training like hay equipment, Dare2Compare in Orlando or skid steer training in Phoenix&#8230;..I traveled to as many as I could.\u00a0 I also took a lot of online classes in John Deere University.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Likewise, over the years, I&#8217;ve actually learned a thing or three during local school in-service sessions.\u00a0 Some were repetitive crap from the year before and the year before that.\u00a0 Yet, every now and then, we have a new one that is engaging.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0And yes, over the past 28 years of attending careertech crap sessions or John Deere classes, I have skipped a session or four.\u00a0 And not once, have the attendees told me that &#8220;Dude, you missed out.\u00a0 It was totally worthwhile.&#8221;\u00a0 Sometimes, you just know when it is going to suck and there is no need to attend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I actually think that I can speak for all teachers when I say, &#8220;If we have to go, we <strong>want<\/strong> to learn something.&#8221;\u00a0 Learn at least one thing that we can use and take back.\u00a0 Whether it be a motivational tool or a teaching tool.\u00a0 Maybe even a tool to sell something.\u00a0 And people, if you think teaching doesn&#8217;t involve selling, you are gravely mistaken.\u00a0 A teacher has to constantly sell ideas to students, to parents, to administration, to the community and to themselves.\u00a0 Teaching is selling, it just doesn&#8217;t involve an exchange of $s.\u00a0 Likewise, a lot of selling is teaching the consumer about a given product.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0And sometimes, one realizes that opportunities were missed.\u00a0 And that is what hurts because that means time was most likely wasted and learning did not occur.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0In the near future, we will discuss missed opportunities.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t pass up on the opportunity to learn from that upcoming post.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 I would consider myself a life-long learner.\u00a0 I&#8217;m always on the lookout for something new.\u00a0 Personally, I think that we all should be.\u00a0 Some are, some not so much.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Believe you me, I screw up more than most.\u00a0 But I immediately fix it and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4487"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4487"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4487\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4488,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4487\/revisions\/4488"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4487"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4487"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4487"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
