{"id":4368,"date":"2021-05-24T00:21:05","date_gmt":"2021-05-24T00:21:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=4368"},"modified":"2021-05-24T00:21:08","modified_gmt":"2021-05-24T00:21:08","slug":"livestock-adventures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/livestock-adventures\/","title":{"rendered":"Livestock Adventures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Even though I&#8217;m all but out of the goat business, I still have goats to buy for students.\u00a0 So&#8230;&#8230;that means I&#8217;m still traveling, studying genetics and flipping rocks looking for show goats for kids all while staying within a given budget.\u00a0 I still have an elite taste and well, the budget doesn&#8217;t match my taste.\u00a0 Therein lies the challenge.\u00a0 I like it!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0A few days ago, I hollered at Clayton Washmon and said, &#8220;Let&#8217;s go look at some good stock.&#8221;\u00a0 Clayton being a livestock junkie didn&#8217;t even ask what species we were going to look at.\u00a0 It could be Jersey dairy cows and he would go.\u00a0 So, we drove to Amarillo, hopped on a plane and headed west.\u00a0 BTW, I highly recommend flying out of Amarillo.\u00a0 This was a first for me and it was laid back and simple.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The central valley of California is EXTREMELY dry.\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 If it ain&#8217;t irrigated, it&#8217;s dead.\u00a0 We flew into Fresno.\u00a0 Another small airport that was friendly and easy to navigate.\u00a0 The cool thing about the Fresno airport is upon arrival and going down the escalator, the first thing that you see is a John Deere tractor.\u00a0 AWESOME!\u00a0 \u00a0Most of the ads in the airport are for irrigation systems, ag chemical companies, seed and fertilizer dealers.\u00a0 My kind of place.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 We jumped in a rental car and drove to Brem Livestock.\u00a0 Great hospitality, excellent goats and a wicked lineup of bucks.\u00a0 Unfortunately, they know the value of some of those doe kids.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t blame them.\u00a0 I, as well would keep them.\u00a0 Especially the de-horned doe kids.\u00a0 Which begs the question&#8230;.Why don&#8217;t we de-horn all doe kids?\u00a0 Leave the horns on the purebreds but disbud the &#8220;wether&#8221;-genetics.\u00a0 IDK.\u00a0 Makes sense to me.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Clayton and I picked some Valencia oranges.\u00a0 \u00a0Oh, so good.\u00a0 The Brem crew had some navel oranges for us as well.\u00a0 Ohhhh!!\u00a0 \u00a0 Eating these things is kind of orgasmic.\u00a0 No matter the person, there are a lots of grunts, groans and moaning followed by a lot of juices flowing.\u00a0 Clayton and I did talk reasons as to the differences between a Navel orange and a Valencia.\u00a0 We also learned about Sumo oranges.\u00a0 Any of you that know Clayton understands that he is a man of few words.\u00a0 But as he said, &#8220;Really good trip.&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 We&#8217;ll talk more about goats later.\u00a0 Here are some of our adventures on this trip.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0It is now standard apparel for a lot of women to wear yoga pants while flying.\u00a0 This is good and bad.\u00a0 I understand the comfort level but not all women need to wear yoga pants in public.\u00a0 However, since this was a livestock evaluation trip, Clayton and I did judge several classes of yoga pants.\u00a0 This also involved some grunts and groans.\u00a0 Some good, some not so good.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Going through security at Fresno for our return trip, I got busted.\u00a0 Clayton had picked about 15 pounds of oranges which he put in my carry-on bag.\u00a0 At the conveyor, the TSA lady asked me, through her mask, &#8220;Dew ya half sum tawletries or fewd items in tha bawg.&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0I replied, &#8220;Hunh?&#8221; as I thought about the teacher from Charlie Brown.<\/p>\n<p>She pulled down her mask and said, &#8220;Do you have any toiletries or food items in your bag?&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Me&#8211;&#8220;Oh yeah!\u00a0 There is a toothbrush, some deodorant and travel shampoos that I took from the hotel..oh&#8230;and some oranges.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Her&#8211;&#8220;You mean orange juice?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Me&#8211;&#8220;Ma&#8217;am, they are really juicy but they are still oranges.\u00a0 No juice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Her&#8211;&#8220;I don&#8217;t know if that will pass or not.&#8221;\u00a0 She pushes the bag into the x-ray machine.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Next step&#8211;&#8220;Sir, is this your bag?&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;Yes.&#8221;\u00a0 I replied as I stepped forward while putting my shoes back on and buckling my belt.\u00a0 All while trying to contemplate how Clayton and I are going to eat all of these oranges as there was NO chance of us letting them chunk em.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Can you please step over here?&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Okay.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sir, you cannot take this aboard this flight.\u00a0 Do you want to drink it or throw it away?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;WTH?\u00a0 \u00a0Are you serious?\u00a0 That 8 ounce bottle of water was given to me by American Airlines yesterday along with those pretzels and the hand wipes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sir, you can&#8217;t take this bottle of water on this flight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Okay.\u00a0 Keep it.\u00a0 They will give me another one in an hour or so.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 They kept the 8 ounce bottle of un-opened water that was given to me by the airline and I zipped up my bag that held a bunch of fresh-picked oranges.\u00a0 \u00a0Makes sense.\u00a0 Yoga-pant-wearing ladies could buy starbuck&#8217;s products and carry on the flight and I could smuggle oranges in my bag yet, they confiscated the un-opened bottle of water that the airline gave me on Thursday and then gave me another one on Friday.\u00a0 Ahhhhh!!!\u00a0 I get it.\u00a0 Central Cali is in a drought and need to conserve all the water that they can.\u00a0 Okay!!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0And you can&#8217;t have a livestock adventure without some good food.\u00a0 Oh yeah!\u00a0 \u00a0Mexican food in Porterville was top shelf.\u00a0 El Tapatio.\u00a0 \u00a0HUGE portions, wicked good flavor.\u00a0 Highly recommend.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0Over and out for tonight.\u00a0 More useless information to come in the upcoming days.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Even though I&#8217;m all but out of the goat business, I still have goats to buy for students.\u00a0 So&#8230;&#8230;that means I&#8217;m still traveling, studying genetics and flipping rocks looking for show goats for kids all while staying within a given budget.\u00a0 I still have an elite taste [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4368"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4368"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4368\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":4400,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4368\/revisions\/4400"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4368"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4368"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4368"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
