{"id":4242,"date":"2021-03-18T03:25:13","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T03:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=4242"},"modified":"2021-03-18T03:25:13","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T03:25:13","slug":"food-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/food-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Food"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I like food.\u00a0 You do to.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve eaten at some really, really good restaurants.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve eaten at some high end places with high end prices and high end quality.\u00a0 \u00a0And I&#8217;ve eaten at some crap-holes that served high end food.\u00a0 \u00a0And some of my favorites were right at home.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, I like eating at St. Elmo&#8217;s in Indy.\u00a0 I love Cooper&#8217;s BBQ in Llano, Tx .\u00a0 The lobster mac &amp; cheese at SW in Vegas is really good.\u00a0 And of course, I&#8217;m all in on a Pappadeaux&#8217;s.\u00a0 As good as those places are&#8230;.I&#8217;ve had better.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got a long list of gastric experiences.\u00a0 As do you.<\/p>\n<p>The best brisket that I&#8217;ve eaten was cooked by my friend Tyke Greer.\u00a0 The best\u00a0pork ribs that I&#8217;ve ever had&#8230;..well, I will be cooking more of them this summer.\u00a0 The best steak that I&#8217;ve ever eaten&#8230;..John Q raised &amp; fed the beef and Tammy cooked it.\u00a0 (this is a regular occurrence)\u00a0 The best chex mix EVER&#8230;Brandon Bruce makes it.\u00a0 The best pastrami comes from Usinger&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>One of my all time favorite foody experiences happened off the coast of Costa Rica.\u00a0 We had been out catching sailfish.\u00a0 Awesome experience.\u00a0 We were 50 miles off the coast,\u00a0 heading back.\u00a0 I was on the deck, drinking a beer when the deck hand asked me if I wanted some pineapple.\u00a0 RUSM?\u00a0 Pineapple, grown right there in Costa Rica.\u00a0 YES!!\u00a0 \u00a0He used the same knife that he cut bait with earlier, sliced the outsides of the pineapple off, cut a chunk of that fruit and tossed it to me.\u00a0 I took a bite.\u00a0 \u00a0OOOOOOHHHHH!!!\u00a0 \u00a0Juices everywhere.\u00a0 Down my chin and into my chest air.\u00a0 So, so good!!<\/p>\n<p>There are stories that involve a fresh peach and others that involve plates of bacon and others that have me burning my mouth on HOT turkey pot pie.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, about once a month, I have to retreat and just make a PB&amp;J.\u00a0 White bread, WITH THE CRUST STILL ON, Smucker&#8217;s grape jelly with Peter Pan crunchy peanut butter.\u00a0 Both smeared liberally on that bread.\u00a0 I can eat that and be powered up.\u00a0 Tasty, yet energizing.<\/p>\n<p>Why does every species of stock show winners have to have a winner that checks all the boxes, have the extra bells and whistles, have the extra price tag?\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 When some of our best experiences were simple.<\/p>\n<p>It was simply the best dang piece of pineapple that I have ever eaten.\u00a0 Sure, I was on a crappy boat, on the Pacific but he used a dirty knife.\u00a0 And I don&#8217;t care.\u00a0 It was so good.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not whining.\u00a0 I saw some really good animals today.\u00a0 They were good, well presented and well shown.\u00a0 I&#8217;m just thinking while typing.\u00a0 And sometimes, we look towards the more complex when the simple might have been better.<\/p>\n<p>I get caught up looking at these things from different angles.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been a stock show parent that wants his kids to win.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been a breeder.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been an ag educator.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been a judge.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been a jock.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been a stock show addict.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve done it.\u00a0 And sometimes, a lot of times, what looks good at the backdrop doesn&#8217;t look good for the parent, breeder or ag teacher.<\/p>\n<p>I should probably re-read this before I post.\u00a0 What I think that I am trying to say without getting things twisted up, but should make sense to you and maybe me.<\/p>\n<p>How come we can&#8217;t just have a damn good PB&amp;J for a grand animal?\u00a0 One, where we all agree that the crusts have good lines, and all parts are done to the right.\u00a0 How come it has to be a PB &amp; not jelly served with a side of a garlic aioli\u00a0 sauce and a slice of lime on a wheat nut bread?<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t bashing anyone.\u00a0 \u00a0Probably one of those deals best explained in person.\u00a0 Peace out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I like food.\u00a0 You do to.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve eaten at some really, really good restaurants.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve eaten at some high end places with high end prices and high end quality.\u00a0 \u00a0And I&#8217;ve eaten at some crap-holes that served high end food.\u00a0 \u00a0And some of my favorites were right at home.
