I have always been a Paul Harvey fan. \u00a0Back in the early 80s, when dad got off work, picked me up and we went to do chores (roughly 5:30 pm), Paul Harvey–the Rest of the Story would be on the radio. \u00a0I loved that stuff. \u00a0Still do. \u00a0Great voice that was used so well, and yet was clean and to the point. \u00a0You had to think while listening to it. \u00a0And, you usually learned something. \u00a0And yes, at 2 am on some mornings, I google old Paul Harvey broadcasts. \u00a0The world would be a better place if we shut off the current crap and listened to a bit of Paul Harvey.<\/p>\n
Last night’s blog post did not get finished. \u00a0Hell, it actually never got started.<\/p>\n
And with a nod to the legend himself, here is the rest of the story. \u00a0My motivation for the whole post stemmed from a family group text that Duke had sent out. \u00a0He had sent a picture of a baby Horny Toad that he had caught. \u00a0He had sent it to Kela, Tammy and myself. \u00a0I LOVE seeing\/catching a horned lizard. \u00a0It stirs my soul. \u00a0This has been an ongoing thing with our family. \u00a0Catch and release. \u00a0You can be going 60 plus MPH and Duke can spot a Horny Toad on the pavement. \u00a0The driver better be ready to swerve. \u00a0And swerve we do.<\/p>\n
That pic of a little Horny Toad had me thinking all afternoon. \u00a0My mind was whirling\u2026\u2026we don’t see as many as we used to; \u00a0 it’s late in the year to see a baby horned lizard; \u00a0any little horned toad is a good sign\u2026etc. etc. etc.<\/p>\n
THAT is my religion. \u00a0I love seeing things like a horny toad. \u00a0I love that my kids watch out for a horny toad. \u00a0My soul gets stirred on things like this. \u00a0Stock shows, speech\/judging contests, scholarships, proficiency awards\u2026SURE! \u00a0If they are giving out awards, let’s go win em. \u00a0I don’t care what species or contest\u2026.if they are giving an award\u2026win it. \u00a0WHY NOT? \u00a0 If we get beat by better, so what! \u00a0I would hope that there are plenty trying to do their best.<\/p>\n
But that is not my passion. \u00a0My passion, my religion is seeing people do well and do better than they thought they could. \u00a0Winning is the carrot for everybody else. \u00a0I only like carrots when cooked in a roast beef.<\/p>\n

AND now, for the rest of the rest of the story. \u00a0To be honest\u2026I am in the best mental state that I have been in for years. \u00a0Physically \u2026..drained. \u00a0I haven’t been sleeping more than a couple hours per night. \u00a0Worse than usual. \u00a0 Yet, last night, as I typed out that stuff, I had to stop and dry an eye or two. \u00a0I got to thinking about each and every kid. \u00a0How each kid, their family and their goat(s) became family to Tammy and I. \u00a0I choked up. \u00a0 I may be an asshole but I love what I do. \u00a0I leaned back in this John Deere leather office chair and just thought about families. \u00a0I could list them all but that would take a bit.<\/p>\n
ANYWAYS, I smooth ass fell asleep in my office chair. \u00a0FOR 7 hours straight. \u00a0 No beer, haven’t had bourbon in months, no peach crown, nothing!!! \u00a0 Smooth ass fell asleep in my chair. \u00a0I’ve never slept that long in this chair. \u00a0I slept hard. \u00a0I hope it happens again.<\/p>\n
And as a result, this Friday was as good of a day as any. \u00a0Clayton Washmon and I pulled cidrs, ate breakfast at Ed’s Cafe, 13 toothed some lambs, got some free watermelons for ag olympics, took a lamb to Fairview and swapped bucks at Cleo Springs. \u00a0U ain’t never had fun till u listened to Bob Seelke discuss teaser bucks.<\/p>\n
I hope that you have had the joy of seeing a horny toad dart across your path. \u00a0I wish that all of you that read this crap have shed a tear or three while thinking about positive things in the agricultural world. \u00a0I wish that more people would stop and listen to some Paul Harvey broadcasts.<\/p>\n
It is an easy argument to say that Guns N Roses is the best rock band ever. \u00a0And it is hard to argue against the fact that Alabama is the best country group ever. \u00a0 And that Neil Diamond is timeless.<\/p>\n
