{"id":3534,"date":"2020-05-01T02:52:46","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T02:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=3534"},"modified":"2020-05-01T02:53:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T02:53:00","slug":"never-seen-before","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/never-seen-before\/","title":{"rendered":"Never seen before"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Let&#8217;s face it. \u00a0All of us in the goat world have a story or twelve of things that we have never seen before and will probably never see again. \u00a0Goats are the worst when it comes to these amazing things but it happens in all species of livestock.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, I had a double whammy.<\/p>\n<p>First, I was trying to sort some calves. \u00a0The first batch went really well. \u00a0The next batch was a pain in the ass&#8212;mini herefords. \u00a0Before any of you buy a herd of mini-herfs&#8211;call me. \u00a0There are some things that they leave out in the sales brochure. \u00a0Like the fact that they are a bunch of M-t@h$r \u00a0FFFFFFFFFFFers to deal with once in a corral. \u00a0I like eating them but I don&#8217;t like dealing with the little turds. \u00a0These calves have been weaned almost two weeks. \u00a0We needed to sort a couple out and run them through the tub, alley &amp; chute. \u00a0Some went, some went bat crap. \u00a0I was staying calm but my helper was getting pissed. \u00a0I warned him to calm down.<\/p>\n<p>This one calf would not go through the gate, wouldn&#8217;t do it. \u00a0We were both getting frustrated but, the third time this calf ran head first into a panel and then turned and ran south, the kid helping me decided to throw a sorting stick at the calf.<\/p>\n<p>Swear to GOD, if I hadn&#8217;t witnessed it, I wouldn&#8217;t believe it. \u00a0The stick hit her right behind the ear and she dropped dead. \u00a0Dead, dead, dead. \u00a0I saw him throw it and I didn&#8217;t think that he threw that hard. \u00a0But, I also knew that deal was dead when she hit the ground. \u00a0Instant impact! \u00a0The thing is, this calf is out of the oldest, calmest mini herf. \u00a0She eats cake out of the Dragon Lady&#8217;s hand. \u00a0Not no more.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, I was pissed. \u00a0He shouldn&#8217;t have thrown it but I also know that he wasn&#8217;t trying to do damage. \u00a0I have just never seen anything like it before.<\/p>\n<p>So, then we went to check goats. \u00a0Three does with kids in the kidding barn. \u00a0I had fed them an hour earlier. \u00a0The kid went in the barn to clean water buckets. \u00a0He hollered and said that &#8220;A doe on the south side of the kidding barn was dead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What? \u00a0 No, she was eating alfalfa an hour ago. \u00a0WTH? \u00a0Yep, he was right. \u00a0 Dead, dead, dead. \u00a0Bloated up to beat all hell. \u00a0 In all the thousands of doe goats that I have kidded out, I have never had one standing there eating and nursing kids and then be dead. \u00a0Bloated up to beat all heck. \u00a0The others are fine. \u00a0I guess she choked and bloated. \u00a0 \u00a0the great thing is that she had a pair of twins on her.<\/p>\n<p>The joys and discomforts of an agricultural life.<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let&#8217;s face it. \u00a0All of us in the goat world have a story or twelve of things that we have never seen before and will probably never see again. \u00a0Goats are the worst when it comes to these amazing things but it happens in all species of livestock.
