{"id":3463,"date":"2020-03-26T02:46:29","date_gmt":"2020-03-26T02:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=3463"},"modified":"2020-03-26T02:55:01","modified_gmt":"2020-03-26T02:55:01","slug":"tough-swimming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/tough-swimming\/","title":{"rendered":"Tough Swimming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I will be honest. \u00a0The last several days have kind of kicked the heck out of me. \u00a0No, I haven&#8217;t had classes but I have been busy with this ag teaching gig. \u00a0The Shattuck school administration has been busy trying to prepare for this shit-show that we are currently experiencing. \u00a0This is a time of year when I am happy to be busy&#8211;kids working on CDEs, speeches, getting ready for convention and banquet&#8211;all while gathering calves, sheep and some goats for NEXT year. \u00a0But not this year. \u00a0We are all in new territory and this makes my mind swim.<\/p>\n<p>Then, \u00a0throw in a former student that died this past weekend. \u00a0And now, shit gets tough. \u00a0Tammy and I have been working with the family. \u00a0No he didn&#8217;t die from the corona BS. \u00a0It couldn&#8217;t be that easy. \u00a0This kid wasn&#8217;t the best student ever. \u00a0But, he was one helluva of an ag mecher. \u00a0He was the kid that sold a lot of Blue &amp; Gold, helped at every community service project, would gladly clean the shop and when he got his turn working in the shop, then he shined. \u00a0He was the best torch operator that I have dealt with and he was left-handed. \u00a0His buddies called him &#8220;The man with golden torch hand.&#8221; \u00a0 When Shattuck FFA went to winning a bunch of these ag mech type deals, AJ was the offensive lineman that paved the way. \u00a0I delivered a pile of plaques to his mom that he won for us. \u00a0This stuff isn&#8217;t fun. \u00a0 It&#8217;s tough swimming.<\/p>\n<p>But, there have been bright moments. \u00a0 AJ had built a WICKED bad ass horseshoe cross. \u00a0It won a division at Woodward District. \u00a0Then it was RESERVE GRAND overall at the State Fair of OK. \u00a0And it won a division at the Tulsa State Fair. \u00a0The Shattuck FFA donated it to the NW Cattleman&#8217;s Scholarship Ball. \u00a0It sold well. \u00a0When he was building this cross, he took up a whole 4&#8217;x8&#8242; shop table and warned all&#8211;&#8220;I will beat anybody that touches this deal!&#8221; \u00a0 \u00a013 horseshoes and about 250 horseshoe nails. \u00a0It was WICKED!!<\/p>\n<p>This week, I contacted the buyer of this WICKED cross. \u00a0I told them that I needed to buy it back or build them a replacement. \u00a0They asked why, so I told them. \u00a0WICKED HUGE thanks to Austin Vanderwork and Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma for giving this piece of art back to the family. \u00a0In this part of Oklahoma, we have some wicked awesome supporters.<\/p>\n<p>Now for the fun shit!! \u00a0 \u00a0Duke and this kid were buds. \u00a0Do I send a message? \u00a0Tammy and I along with AJ&#8217;s family decided to wait. \u00a0DAMN!! \u00a0Now, I am hoping that the corona stuff is done by June. \u00a0Then, we can go to Duke&#8217;s graduation, hug him and then tell him this news.<\/p>\n<p>All of a sudden, goat sales in June don&#8217;t seem that important.<\/p>\n<p>It is all going to work out in the end. \u00a0However, I am already well-known to be a surly bastard. \u00a0Now, add that my mind is swimming uphill. \u00a0Basically, here is a recipe that includes this corona shit, add this deal and I am now HOPING that we get to go to San Diego in June for a graduation, after which, a newly trained Marine may whip my ass for holding out info AND I hope that it is that easy.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve had better days and better weeks but it could be worse.<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one and a better tomorrow. \u00a0Here&#8217;s to horseshoes, horseshoe nails, good welders, wicked torch hands, RARE ribeyes at Cattleman&#8217;s, beards in 8th grade and being a bud. \u00a0Shamrocks dudes!!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I will be honest. \u00a0The last several days have kind of kicked the heck out of me. \u00a0No, I haven&#8217;t had classes but I have been busy with this ag teaching gig. \u00a0The Shattuck school administration has been busy trying to prepare for this shit-show that we are currently experiencing.
