{"id":3434,"date":"2020-02-28T04:32:02","date_gmt":"2020-02-28T04:32:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=3434"},"modified":"2020-02-28T04:32:13","modified_gmt":"2020-02-28T04:32:13","slug":"where-to-start-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/where-to-start-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Where to start?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t have a topic in mind for this night. \u00a0However, there are numerous hot button issues swirling in my brain. \u00a0I am damn tired yet relieved.<\/p>\n<p>The Woodward District Livestock Show is on break for a few days. \u00a0We have shown hogs, sheep and goats. \u00a0Now a break until we show cattle on Monday. \u00a0This is the best district show in Oklahoma and is better than most state shows. \u00a0Name brand judges, top shelf animals and a wicked good premium sale.<\/p>\n<p>I grew accustomed to winning this show for a long, long time. \u00a0Not last year and dang sure not this year. \u00a0We did well considering that I am running new horses that aren&#8217;t quite there and we don&#8217;t spend much $. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t sell many wethers last year, but we will be well represented in the premium sale.<\/p>\n<p>Upon completion of the sheep show, I was rushed to get goats in place, weighed and cards turned in on Tuesday evening. \u00a0I told my young crew to not go far and be ready to work. \u00a0Well, the first time that I needed one of them, they were out side chasing snow flakes. \u00a0SOOOO, I gathered them up, chewed some ass (most of the barn could here me) and gave them a final warning. \u00a0Then I went back to clipping. \u00a0Then a switch flipped inside me. \u00a0&#8220;I don&#8217;t care how they do. \u00a0I&#8217;m putting these turds to work. \u00a0So, I had 8th graders shearing heads, clipping fronts and drenching goats.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dudes, it is hard to turn less and let someone else do it. \u00a0But, sometimes, you just have to let them screw up and learn how to do it right. \u00a0We will see. \u00a0It might have been a smart move.<\/p>\n<p>I had \u00a0a couple of turds act like they are going to make good showmen.<\/p>\n<p>Why do so many shows want to get a sheep AND goat judge. \u00a0They are two different species, that are shown differently, fitted differently and are not the same creature. \u00a0A sheep judge does not necessarilly make for a good goat judge. \u00a0Don&#8217;t&#8217; get me wrong. \u00a0The right wether was grand at Woodward. \u00a0No doubt. \u00a0Congrats to the Maloney family. \u00a0They dominated the wether show. \u00a0And should have.<\/p>\n<p>And then, I have been sleep deprived 1) because of the shows 2) trying to kid out does.<\/p>\n<p>This has been a train wreck. \u00a0 We&#8217;ve hauled off more dead ones than we have alive. \u00a0Numerous reasons&#8212;Big kids. \u00a0Big kid coming upside down and head back. \u00a0Too many triplets and a set of quintuplets. \u00a0Numerous bucks used. \u00a0Does fed a low protein\/ high TDN hay. \u00a0No, I didn&#8217;t use PG600 or any other drug. \u00a0This hasn&#8217;t been a fun week. \u00a0There is a reason that a good goat costs a shit -ton. \u00a0They are hard to make.<\/p>\n<p>One of my kids showed a GL wether into the premium sale. \u00a0One of Pullan&#8217;s kids won the heavy weight class with a GL wether. \u00a0Paintball sired a premium sale wether. \u00a0And I had a couple of TACOCAT kids that made the sale.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t have a topic in mind for this night. \u00a0However, there are numerous hot button issues swirling in my brain. \u00a0I am damn tired yet relieved.
