{"id":3118,"date":"2019-09-16T02:38:06","date_gmt":"2019-09-16T02:38:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=3118"},"modified":"2019-09-16T02:38:20","modified_gmt":"2019-09-16T02:38:20","slug":"sunday-evening-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/sunday-evening-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday Evening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Whew!!! \u00a0Looks like somebody hit Friday evening a bit hard. \u00a0The keyboard as well as other things.<\/p>\n<p>Friday evening found me washing, drying and shearing goats&#8211;all by myself. \u00a0This should not happen again. \u00a0I&#8217;m good washing, or drying or shearing but all of the above is not a good mix. \u00a0I was good on the two wethers but then doe kids\u2026Have I mentioned that I do not like dealing with doe kids.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday morning found me giving shots of lut and placing CIDrs in does. \u00a0This actually went well. \u00a0I crowded all 34 does into a tight alley. \u00a0Then caught each, individual doe, and haltered her. \u00a0Clipped her to the fence and did the job. \u00a0Took me three times as long as it should have, BUT\u2026 no blow ups. \u00a0Learning how to do things all by myself.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday evening found us at the OYE futurity sale. \u00a0I took 2 wethers. \u00a0I really like this pair of wethers. \u00a0 They didn&#8217;t set any record sales prices but they went to good homes. \u00a0I&#8217;m actually stoked about how things went. \u00a0Tyke&#8217;s pair of red wethers didn&#8217;t bring what they should have. \u00a0So, I bought the best one. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t have an order for another wether. \u00a0But, some kid will be happy come March. \u00a0My 15 + years of experience in the goat industry has taught me that if a goat looks the part, and the budget is right, own it, feed it and it will turn out fine. \u00a0It&#8217;s those high $ bastards that we all lose sleep over.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to the OYE staff, specifically Kass Newell and her crew for managing this sale. \u00a0It is held at the Heritage Place (wicked impressive horse sale facility) &#8211;free of charge. \u00a0Jason Spence flew to OKC to cry this auction. \u00a0(Free of charge) \u00a0Sure, it is a 15% commission sale, but they do a good job of making the futurity worth the while. \u00a0Thanks to you people that put this deal on.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday morning found me attending Mass\u2026on time. \u00a0Then, tagging a newborn calf. \u00a0Then eating a bowl of cocoa puffs. \u00a0Then digging meat out of the freezer to send to Stillwater. \u00a0Korbyn was home and needed to reload. \u00a0THEN, I took a nap. \u00a0Hells2the YEAH! \u00a0I took a nap. \u00a0Slobber and all. \u00a0Then, I headed to the ag building.<\/p>\n<p>When I left the ag building, I stopped at Mom &amp; Dad&#8217;s. \u00a0She was making fresh Bierox. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t eat one. \u00a0Why? \u00a0The Dragon Lady had a roast cooking. \u00a0A bad ass beef roast permeates the entire house with the smell\u2026.for hours. \u00a0It was already in my brain. \u00a0I listened to recent travel stories of Poland, Czech Republic and Austria. \u00a0Smelled fresh baked Bierox, I did. \u00a0I went into a bit of a haze. \u00a0I kind of remember Dad talking about weaning weights and bull EPDs. \u00a0This pasture averaged this and or that. \u00a0 I felt like a crack addict at a 12 step meeting. \u00a0I don&#8217;t know how to shoot up but there is a roast beef with carrots and taters waiting\u2026.Wait, what\u2026.something about a bourbon sample deal in Kentucky with a limo and fancy suits. \u00a0I can&#8217;t focus. \u00a0Bierox\u2026.roast beef\u2026.bourbon, but I didn&#8217;t have any of it. \u00a0The bourbon that is.<\/p>\n<p>Oh heck yeah! \u00a0I ate roast beef, carrots &amp; taters. \u00a0I&#8217;ve never been to Amsterdam or an opium den in some Asian town but I understand fighting urges and chasing addictions. \u00a0When I graduated high school in 1989, I was 5&#8217;9&#8243; and 186 lbs and had a 29&#8243; waist. \u00a0 Now, I am almost 5&#8217;9&#8243; and I weighed 190.2 lbs on the digital scales at Ellis County Animal Hospital this past Friday and I can wear anywhere from a 33&#8243; to a 34&#8243; waist line in shorts and I don&#8217;t even want to wear jeans or slacks. \u00a0Nothing fits quite right. \u00a0Nobody makes any clothes for a typical Schneider build. \u00a0Not long, kind of square, round in the middle and it damn sure better be square and measured right.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve overdosed on roast beef. \u00a0Bad ass!! \u00a0 I&#8217;m going to step away from the keyboard. \u00a0Have a good one and a better tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whew!!! \u00a0Looks like somebody hit Friday evening a bit hard. \u00a0The keyboard as well as other things.
