{"id":3084,"date":"2019-08-26T02:59:36","date_gmt":"2019-08-26T02:59:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=3084"},"modified":"2019-08-26T03:15:20","modified_gmt":"2019-08-26T03:15:20","slug":"back2-back-hungry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/back2-back-hungry\/","title":{"rendered":"Back2 Back&#8212;&#8211;Hungry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How about this stuff? \u00a0Back2Back posts on the same night.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve never been truly hungry. \u00a0Sure, I&#8217;ve missed a meal but my brothers and I, nor our kids have never been truly hungry. \u00a0Our parents and grandparents always made sure that the kids had a good meal. \u00a0We might not have gotten the new toy or the cool clothes but we have always had high quality nourishment put in front of us.<\/p>\n<p>However, some of that stuff\u2026..dudes, I&#8217;ve never been hungry enough to like cooked spinach or stuffed bell peppers or raw tomatoes.<\/p>\n<p>I grew up with a Granny that liked to cook for family and people, yet she wasn&#8217;t a good cook. \u00a0Worst hamburgers ever. \u00a0Burnt steaks. \u00a0 U0mph! \u00a0 But she made the BEST gravy ever! \u00a0 Looking back, that bad ass gravy made up for a whole bunch of common food. \u00a0I miss Granny but it wasn&#8217;t her cooking that I remember fondly.<\/p>\n<p>On the other side, my Grandma Schneider was used to cooking for 5 sons plus others. \u00a0Large quantities and a wicked dessert. \u00a0I&#8217;m at an age where I am thinking that maybe I need to try to re-create the beef short ribs on sauerkraut.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up, my brothers and I were spoiled. \u00a0Our mother was and is a bad ass cook. \u00a0Steaks, burgers\u2026not so much. \u00a0But everything else. \u00a0Bierox. \u00a0Noodles &amp; budeglase. \u00a0Roast Beef. \u00a0Pies! \u00a0Pies! \u00a0 \u00a0Oh my the pies! \u00a0Bread rolls. \u00a0Desserts like kuchen and frog-eye salad. \u00a0Main courses like prime rib and grilled salmon. \u00a0OOHH!!! \u00a0 I&#8217;m not much of a chicken eater but the grand kids line up for her fried chicken. \u00a0Hot or cold, they crave it.<\/p>\n<p>When I got married, the Dragon Lady could cook a mean lasagna. \u00a0That&#8217;s it. \u00a0That is a story best told while sitting on a bucket. \u00a0She got pissed at me and talked to my mom and now\u2026..the Dragon Lady is wicked good. \u00a0I&#8217;ll pay money for a helluva steak but she holds her own. \u00a0She and her dad, for several years now, grill the steaks for Christmas dinner. \u00a0I stay out of the way and wait with ready plate, fork and knife. \u00a0Chicken fried steak\u2026.wicked. \u00a0And she doesn&#8217;t cook them very often but the egg rolls are awesome.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, I ate a plate of egg rolls then walked into the kitchen and there is a fresh PEACH pie that has my mother&#8217;s carvings in the crust. \u00a0If I die tonight, I will pass as a well fed, happy soul.<\/p>\n<p>Riches, I do not desire when I have tastes such as these. \u00a0And as I get ready to end this post, I am glancing towards the kitchen. \u00a0And there by the stove, sitting in rows upon the rock ledge, are glass jars that embody a color far greater than the very best ruby that ever existed on this Earth. \u00a0I can only anticipate the flavor that is held within these glass containers. \u00a0It is not every year that nature yields a harvest that provides such a flavorful palate. \u00a0But this is that year. \u00a0Shall it be a biscuit or merely a piece of toast that will be the carrier of such a flavor. \u00a0Oohh! \u00a0I look forward to the morning as I am going to pop the seal of one of these jars of Sand Plum Jelly. \u00a0Ass chewing be damned! \u00a0I will eat some of this goodness!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How about this stuff? \u00a0Back2Back posts on the same night.
