I am not the only breeder that feels this way. \u00a0Read the write ups on these online sales. \u00a0“There are NO more pictures, no videos, this is it.”<\/p>\n
My favorite is Stork’s. \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0“P.S. \u2013 I do not have any more pictures or references nor do I know his current weight, hobbies or other interests.”<\/p>\n
Maycon and any other breeder is right to do this. \u00a0My experience is that the one’s texting for more pictures and videos NEVER bid. \u00a0 Even if you send them the desired pics or video. \u00a0It isn’t that they don’t buy, they don’t even bid. \u00a0These fools aren’t even tire kickers. \u00a0They don’t even come to the car lot to kick the tires.<\/p>\n
Time Wasters–ain’t nothing worse than somebody that wastes others time.<\/p>\n
If you are actually a serious buyer, ask specific questions and then TALK to the breeders.<\/p>\n

A couple of weeks ago, I get an anonymous text–“Do you guys have any does available?”<\/p>\n
That’s it. \u00a0No name. \u00a0No specifics about what they want or need. \u00a0So, I reply, “Mature Does? \u00a0Yearling Does? \u00a0Doe Kids?”<\/p>\n
They reply–“Yearling and mature. \u00a0Could u send me pictures?”<\/p>\n
Damn! \u00a0They went straight to the picture question. \u00a0With a quick phone # search it becomes apparent that the texter lives within 2 hours of me. \u00a0Not a long distance to come look at stock. \u00a0So I reply \u00a0“I do have some of each. \u00a0No, I’m not taking pics of them.”<\/p>\n
Immediate reply. \u00a0“OK! \u00a0Then we’re not interested.”<\/p>\n

As a breeder, as a stockman, as a salesman and as a decent human being, I am now PISSED! \u00a0 I don’t know what they are looking for–certain genetics, cheap does, the ONE doe, what the eff? \u00a0I am not going to go take a picture of every dang doe that I would sell. \u00a0Heck, for the right price, I would sell any single thing on the place. \u00a0But, I don’t know who it is, what they want, what price range they need to be in, nothing!<\/p>\n

So\u2026.I replied–<\/p>\n
“This was an anonymous text sent to me inquiring about does. \u00a0There was no discussion about genetics, productivity or price. \u00a0Just straight to the picture question. \u00a0Therefore, I would not have a clue which does would interest you or any other un-named random texter. \u00a0Going forward, I would recommend including a name in a text when you send these requests to other breeders; therefore, they can properly help you. \u00a0Thanks, Chris Kelln.”<\/p>\n

I don’t care if it sounds rude or condescending. \u00a0It isn’t as rude as the random, anonymous text asking for pics. \u00a0It isn’t like I lost a customer.<\/p>\n
Numerous breeders are posting the “no more pics comment”. \u00a0 Milligan had a Facebook rant about an old chevy avalanche that he had for sale. \u00a0Jared Schneberger called to vent about a pic\/video TEXT request and the reply that he got. \u00a0“Hey Kelln, I got a topic for that stupid blog that I read.” \u00a0I agreed with him. \u00a0This is a valid topic. \u00a0Then, I pulled up Stork’s sale and read that comment. \u00a0Classic! \u00a0A young breeder that is at the top of the game, has no known enemies, a clean reputation and even he is sick of this crap.<\/p>\n
If you call me, or any other reputable breeder, they will gladly talk to you about their stock. \u00a0I will tell you any positive or negative about any animal that I own. \u00a0Most breeders will do the same.<\/p>\n
I recently had a good visit with one of the true stockmen in the livestock industry–Mike Harbour. \u00a0We were discussing the livestock industry in general. \u00a0Harbour made the comment, “The new customer base wants the livestock industry to be like Amazon. \u00a0Give me a couple of pics, a brief write up and deliver the animal to my front door. \u00a0That’s what they want.” \u00a0You know what? \u00a0He ain’t wrong.<\/p>\n
However, the serious buyer may text, but they have their name and what they want. \u00a0And then actual conversations happen. \u00a0There may even be more pics and video. \u00a0There may be a 3rd party come take a look at the stock and report back to the buyer. \u00a0Lots of things happen when it becomes a legit conversation.<\/p>\n
I’ve had a heckuva good week so far. \u00a0Thursday is tomorrow and I get staples out of my belly button, new glasses and my hip lasered. \u00a0It is hell getting old. \u00a0It is also expensive. \u00a0At least I won’t be wasting anybody’s time.<\/p>\n
