{"id":2644,"date":"2018-12-12T03:27:48","date_gmt":"2018-12-12T03:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=2644"},"modified":"2018-12-12T03:28:00","modified_gmt":"2018-12-12T03:28:00","slug":"project-visits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/project-visits\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Visits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once upon a time, as a younger ag teacher, I made regular rounds to see all livestock projects on a regular basis. \u00a0This wasn&#8217;t all bad but I quickly learned that it was better to load the stock and bring to a central location. \u00a0Don&#8217;t load the scales and haul from place to place. \u00a0Break the stock to drive, lead, etc. \u00a0Give them a bit of stress loading, unloading and riding in the trailer. \u00a0Expose them to new places. \u00a0Plus the scales stayed balanced.<\/p>\n<p>Then, I wasn&#8217;t an ag teacher but I dealt with lots of stock. \u00a0Bring them to me. \u00a0I only occasionally stopped in to any given location if I was in the area or there was an emergency. \u00a0This also allowed to put showmen in contact with each other. \u00a0Peer pressure is a great motivator. \u00a0If every other kid can lead and show their stock, junior will typically get their ass in gear.<\/p>\n<p>Now, as an older and wiser owl, I still prescribe to the bring the stock to one location. \u00a0But, sometimes, you just need to make the rounds. \u00a0Nominations are a good reason to do this.<\/p>\n<p>Which brings us to this evening. \u00a0I left school a bit early, bout 3:10ish and headed south. \u00a060 miles later, I made it to this project visit. \u00a0I met the dad at the barn, pulled hair and nominated several head of shoats. \u00a0Yes, that was 60 miles one way. \u00a0120 round trip. \u00a0And I only crossed 2 school districts.<\/p>\n<p>No big deal. \u00a0Just another example of what parents will do for their kids. \u00a0Daughter is in school at Shattuck. \u00a0Mom works in Shattuck. \u00a0Pigs are getting started at their home barns and will move to ag farm during Christmas. \u00a0Nothing wrong here. \u00a0Just some miles to drive. \u00a0Actually, I get to check projects in 7 different school districts and cross state lines to see some. \u00a0It&#8217;s all good. \u00a0One just has to use some strategery to make efficient stops.<\/p>\n<p>Shout out to a moron or two in the greater Billings, OK area. \u00a0They kind of made the news for some dude saving a bald eagle. \u00a0Cool deal!<\/p>\n<p>As I am typing this, Tammy is telling me that Kela met some dude today on a tv or movie set named Charles Barkley.<\/p>\n<p>Tammy asked Duke, &#8220;Do you know who Charles Barkley is?<\/p>\n<p>Duke replied, &#8220;I feel like I should, but no.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tammy then told him, &#8220;He used to play for the Lakers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Me: \u00a0&#8220;WHAT IN THE, I will bet whatever against that statement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tammy: \u00a0&#8220;Yes he did. \u00a0Didn&#8217;t he?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Me: \u00a0&#8220;NOOO!
