{"id":2311,"date":"2018-06-16T04:04:14","date_gmt":"2018-06-16T04:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=2311"},"modified":"2018-06-16T04:16:10","modified_gmt":"2018-06-16T04:16:10","slug":"per-request","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/per-request\/","title":{"rendered":"Per Request"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Had an interesting text that pointed out that The Chive had a post naming 1989 as the best year ever for movies. \u00a0This piqued my interest as 1989 is right in my wheelhouse. \u00a0That year brought high school graduation and the start of a college career at the great cow college of Oklahoma State University. \u00a0That is the year that Garth Brooks blew up on the scene. \u00a0Good year.<\/p>\n<p>I immediately set out to prove this post wrong. \u00a01989 was a good movie but the best? \u00a0IDK about that. \u00a0Let&#8217;s take a look at this class as they enter the ring. \u00a0Hunh, this class looks good, starting to look real good. \u00a0Dang there are some killers in this class. \u00a0Let them keep walking, don&#8217;t pull any yet, just let these good ones keep coming and see if there is an easy class winner amongst all these good ones. \u00a0It is getting hard to argue with 1989.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Lethal Weapon 2&#8211;the best of that franchise. \u00a0I loved it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;When Harry Met Sally&#8211;excellent flick that has held up to the test of time. \u00a0Carrie Fisher was in it (Star Wars connection)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Uncle Buck&#8211;great flick&#8211;John Candy &#8211;awesome<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Road House&#8211;&#8220;Don&#8217;t eat the big white mint&#8221;&#8211;crappy action movie that I will watch every time that I see it on the tube. \u00a0Sam Elliott, Patrick Swayze, some hot chicks, easy to follow plot.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Bill &amp; Ted&#8217;s Excellent Adventure&#8211;dumb as hell, but I loved it. \u00a0I watched it the other night. \u00a0Still dumb and I still love it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Dead Poet&#8217;s Society&#8211;Robin Williams at his best. \u00a0Wicked good.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Turner &amp; Hooch&#8211;Can&#8217;t have a top movie list without Tom Hanks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Indiana Jones and the last crusade&#8211;great flick, great plot, great actors&#8211;Harrison Ford (Star Wars connection)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;TWO (2) of the best baseball movies of all time&#8211;Major League ( I love that one) \u00a0&amp; Field of Dreams (Who hasn&#8217;t used the &#8220;If you build it they will come&#8221; line?<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already got 10 bad ass movies which means that some good flicks like Look Who&#8217;s Talking, Always and The Abyss aren&#8217;t getting a ribbon.<\/p>\n<p>But, we do have three near the top of this class that are all-time greats.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Batman (Jack Nicholson as the Joker &amp; Kim Basinger)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;The Little Mermaid&#8211;one of the best animated movies of all time. \u00a0That Ariel was smoking hot. \u00a0I can still recall the lyrics to &#8220;Under the Sea&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;And maybe the best movie of 1989&#8211;Steel Magnolias. \u00a0Star packed chick flick that was good then and has held up to the test of time. \u00a0Dang good movie.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;And we have the best Christmas movie of all time&#8211;Christmas Vacation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, what year could beat it? \u00a0My first thought was 1977. \u00a0Very heavy on the top end with the original Star Wars &amp; Close Encounters of the Third Kind<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Saturday Night Fever&#8211;Travolta&#8217;s white suit is in the Smithsonian.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Smokey and the Bandit&#8211;iconic car, mustache and some of the best quotes. \u00a0&#8220;Junior, there is no way, NO WAY that you came from my loins. \u00a0When I get home, I&#8217;m going to pop your momma in the mouth.&#8221; \u00a0The quotes of Sheriff Buford T. Justice are legendary. \u00a0That movie was very 70&#8217;s but has held up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Annie Hall&#8211;I&#8217;m not a Woody Allen fan but that movie is considered a top 20 all time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Slap Shot&#8211;best hockey movie ever. \u00a0But not enough to beat 1989 in this division.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Check out 1969. \u00a0Easy Rider, True Grit, Paint Your Wagon, etc.<\/p>\n<p>1976 is stacked with Rocky, The Shootist, Carrie, Taxi Driver and King Kong<\/p>\n<p>1990 was good. \u00a0 Tremors, Goodfellas, Home Alone, Pretty Woman, Dances with Wolves, Ghost, Hunt for Red October and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.<\/p>\n<p>1995 brought us Se7en, Toy Story, Braveheart, Billy Madison, Friday AND\u2026..AND\u2026..Tommy Boy!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, I thought of the best movies that I have ever seen. \u00a0True heavyweights. \u00a0I like a big goat that presents itself well, has maintained structure, balance and eye appeal and you can tell that effort was put into this beast in order to make it look attractive at a heavier weight. \u00a0And, my friends, these are some bad ass heavyweights.<\/p>\n<p>What all came out the year of 1994? \u00a0 OH SNAP! \u00a0 Depth of top end quality defines this class.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Lion King&#8211;the best animated movie ever and one of the top 10 movies of all time. \u00a0Heck, just look at the goats named after this movie&#8211;Simba, Rafiki and Mufasa. \u00a0Great, Great movie.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Pulp Fiction&#8211;bad ass, wicked movie. \u00a0Well written, big names, great story, creative, great acting\u2026just can&#8217;t let the children near it. \u00a0Samuel L. Jackson is a \u2026\u2026 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 This movie made stars out of some and resurrected stars like Travolta.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;and here&#8217;s our Tom Hanks entry and it is his best and one of the best ever made&#8211;Forrest Gump.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Leon: the Professional. \u00a0 Well made, well acted movie. \u00a0I like this one a lot. \u00a0The story is awesome. \u00a0And it has a Star Wars connection.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Legends of the Fall&#8211;I still have this flick on VCR tape. \u00a0Great story. \u00a0The BEST Brad Pitt movie.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Jim Carrey&#8212;this was the year that he BLEW UP! \u00a0 Ace Venture: Pet Detective, \u00a0The Mask and one of the funniest movies of all time&#8211;Dumb and Dumber.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Speed was dang cool. \u00a0My favorite Keanu Reeves flick and Sandra Bullock was quite the wildcat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Clerks was cool.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;We&#8217;ve even got 2 baseball movies&#8211;Major League 2 and Angels in the Outfield.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;True Lies&#8211;Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Here&#8217;s the hard part&#8211;Wyatt Earp was a dang good movie and I like Kevin Costner but it wasn&#8217;t the best Wyatt Earp movie. \u00a0Tombstone wins that award. \u00a0But, Tombstone was released on Dec. 24, 1993. \u00a0Weighed one out.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Wait a second, we&#8217;ve got a showman starting to get their critter to work. \u00a0Oh dang. \u00a0Send that one to the scales. \u00a0When you take the time to study this one, you realize that there is a great one in here. \u00a0This one just keeps getting better and better. \u00a0Sound, functional, looks the part, lots of content with some humor, drama, a touch of violence and a deep story. \u00a0A little work of art called The Shawshank Redemption.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Grand drive time on the best movie year of all time. \u00a0Decisions have to be made. \u00a0It quickly sorts down to a pair.<\/p>\n<p>1994&#8211;Shawshank, Speed, Dumb &amp; Dumber, best Brad Pitt flick, best Tom Hanks movie, best Tarantino film, best animated film<\/p>\n<p>1989&#8211;best chick flick, best Christmas movie, best Batman, best Robin Williams, Ariel, two of the best baseball movies ever.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And I quote \u00a0from text \u00a0&#8220;The chive says 1989 is the best movie year ever. \u00a0That&#8217;s some good blog fodder for you to give your opinion on. \u00a0I will say they make a good case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Easy Decision&#8212;and it wasn&#8217;t a big screen movie that wins it for their year. \u00a0Just a little mini-series called\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lonesome Dove\u2026. \u00a0which was released in 1989. \u00a0 The chive was right but they didn&#8217;t have that one listed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Had an interesting text that pointed out that The Chive had a post naming 1989 as the best year ever for movies. \u00a0This piqued my interest as 1989 is right in my wheelhouse. \u00a0That year brought high school graduation and the start of a college career at the great cow [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2311"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2311"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2311\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2314,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2311\/revisions\/2314"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2311"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2311"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2311"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
