{"id":2245,"date":"2018-05-10T03:03:08","date_gmt":"2018-05-10T03:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=2245"},"modified":"2018-05-10T03:09:41","modified_gmt":"2018-05-10T03:09:41","slug":"down-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/down-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Down &#038; Back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, I went on my quick adventure. \u00a0Yes, I did it in one day. \u00a0No, I didn&#8217;t do it alone.<\/p>\n<p>I loaded up and headed south. \u00a0Swung by Mutual, OK and picked up Brandon THE Bruce. \u00a0He likes to travel and he needed some stuff picked up that wasn&#8217;t far from my destination (within 150 miles\u2026close? \u00a0sure). \u00a0We pulled into Jacksboro, TX about 11:20 am. \u00a0We were going to hit the Dairyland before lunch run. \u00a0But, but, nobody was there. \u00a0They are closed on mondays AND Tuesdays. \u00a0Well crap! \u00a0So we went back up the road to Hurd&#8217;s (Herd&#8217;s) burgers. \u00a0Unique stop. \u00a0Very good, quick, no hassle burgers. \u00a0I sat there for a few minutes admiring the no frills, no overhead operation. \u00a0And the amount of business and then the quality of burgers. \u00a0Good stop. \u00a0Then, we headed south some more.<\/p>\n<p>I like good stock. \u00a0I&#8217;m not racist. \u00a0I don&#8217;t care what color or species. \u00a0I cannot lie. \u00a0So, I had to see these Kelly Hair Sheep in real life. \u00a0Did I need to buy one? \u00a0Yes. \u00a0Kind of. \u00a0I have a student that likes showing them and has $500 to spend on one. \u00a0I told Tammy that I was probably going to have to throw some money in to help out. \u00a0I know, I know. \u00a0Those of you that saw that sale are now laughing. \u00a0And rightfully so. \u00a0But, you are also wondering &#8220;Were they worth what they brought?&#8221; \u00a0Yes. \u00a0Wicked good set of livestock. \u00a0Not good for hairs, not good for sheep&#8211;just good livestock. \u00a0Sound structured, good lines, plenty of muscle but still have that look like they will get better with feed, maturity and that their best days are still ahead of them. \u00a0The bottom end would be in the top end of a class of any major show. \u00a0The top end&#8211;pick a major and go win it. \u00a0Good stock. \u00a0I enjoyed looking at this set of animals.<\/p>\n<p>After that, Brandon and I headed down the road and picked up his farming crap. \u00a0We made it back to Elk City, stopped and pulled up the sale. \u00a0WOW! \u00a0Dang! \u00a0I&#8217;m still in the market for a good hair sheep. \u00a0But, it was worth the trip. \u00a0One&#8211;I love looking at good stock. \u00a0Two&#8211;I like talking to good stock people. \u00a0Three&#8211;of course, I like to hit a good eating joint. \u00a0Four&#8211;I enjoyed seeing somebody, somewhere putting up some wheat hay. \u00a0Cuz that ain&#8217;t happening in our part of the world. \u00a0Five&#8211;I like countdowns and top ten lists. \u00a0Six&#8211;Me and the Bruce travel well together. \u00a0I know that he is going to ask questions and he is going to talk about stuff and just keep it real. \u00a0He knows that \u00a0we are going to find a good eating joint, try to see some good critters and that I can be an A-hole. \u00a0It works. \u00a0Seven&#8211;It was windy headed south and west but we got good mileage coming back north. \u00a0Ocho&#8211;I&#8217;m ready to go fishing.<\/p>\n<p>All&#8211;in&#8211;all a very good adventure. \u00a0Now, I need to find time to stay home and get some doe kids ready to sell. \u00a0Why? \u00a0Because I LOVE selling doe kids. \u00a0Jeeminy, I&#8217;ve got too many of these things. \u00a0I bet that it will take me a week or three to get geared up.<\/p>\n<p>Have a good one and a better tomorrow. \u00a0I did and I will. \u00a0You should do the same. \u00a0Cheers!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, I went on my quick adventure. \u00a0Yes, I did it in one day. \u00a0No, I didn&#8217;t do it alone.
