{"id":1795,"date":"2017-09-15T02:24:53","date_gmt":"2017-09-15T02:24:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/?p=1795"},"modified":"2017-09-15T02:25:05","modified_gmt":"2017-09-15T02:25:05","slug":"good-day-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/good-day-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Good Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday after school, I made a quick trip to OKC to drop off state fair entries. \u00a0Plant displays, horticulture entries, ag mechanics projects, FFA news boards and photography entries. \u00a0They had to be there by 7 pm. \u00a0I was done unloading about 6:45 pm. \u00a0I then grabbed a burger and headed home.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I left Shattuck at 6 am in one suburban while Daryle Greer drove another suburban headed back to OKC for the livestock judging contest. \u00a0Due to some tabulation problems, we don&#8217;t know final results, but I am real sure that we didn&#8217;t win. \u00a0There was a bred Hereford heifer class that caused a lot of us problems. \u00a0It happens.<\/p>\n<p>However, we did go check out the results in the FFA barn. \u00a0Ag Mechanics did not go as hoped, but AJ won a division and Duke had a 2nd. \u00a0Kaylee had a 6th in the news board division. \u00a0Okay.<\/p>\n<p>In the sunflower plant life cycle display, Shattuck kids were 2nd, 4th and 5th. \u00a0There are literally hundreds of these entered. \u00a0Of course, I am partial, but we should have had 1st, 2nd and 3rd&#8211;my opinion. \u00a0And remember, I&#8217;m not opinionated&#8211;I&#8217;m just always right.<\/p>\n<p>Even though we busted a class or two today judging, we had a GREAT day. \u00a0In my suburban, I hauled (6) 8th grade boys that think that they really like livestock judging. \u00a0DUDE! \u00a0It was invigorating to listen to them talk before and after the contest. \u00a0I drove west down I-40 with a stupid grin on my face as they went through and re-figured their placings scores&#8211;old school style. \u00a0It won&#8217;t be long till they realize that there is an app for that. \u00a0They compared dropped points and then talked crap to each other. \u00a0They asked questions about livestock, contests and scholarships. \u00a0And in true 8th grade boys fashion, they had a &#8220;who has the most armpit hair contest.&#8221; \u00a0 That was a new one for this old dog. \u00a0One of these boys did have the grand watermelon at the State Fair of OK. \u00a0He raised it himself. \u00a0 The other boys gave him &#8220;props&#8221; for his grand melon. \u00a0People, a grand is a grand, no matter the show.<\/p>\n<p>I talked to several other ag teachers that have 20 years of experience on me. \u00a0One of which is getting ready to start teaching the third generation of a family in his community. \u00a0WOW! \u00a0 I asked him when he was going to retire. \u00a0His reply, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know. \u00a0I really like what I am doing.&#8221; \u00a0I don&#8217;t care what your career is\u2026.that, my friends, speaks volumes.<\/p>\n<p>I watched another old fart as he was taking pictures of students&#8217; projects that placed high and won. \u00a0This dude has had lots of winning teams, livestock, speakers, etc. \u00a0He is in his 4th decade of teaching. \u00a0I said, &#8220;This ain&#8217;t all bad not worrying about money, politics or the rest of the crap like in the stock show barn.&#8221; I got a wink, a grin and &#8220;No doubt.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And then we found the grand champion photo board. \u00a0One of Shattuck&#8217;s finest was grand champion overall in that division. \u00a0So what? \u00a0How is that agriculture? \u00a0RUSM?! \u00a0First off, there were hundreds in this division. \u00a0Another Shattuck kid was 5th. \u00a0Yes, I stress photography for ag sales. \u00a0Why? \u00a0Have you watched any online sales? \u00a0Look at the number of online sales, websites and Facebook pages devoted to photos of equipment, tractors, combines, etc. \u00a0The livestock world all wants &#8220;the pic&#8221;. \u00a0 Our world revolves around the photos dedicated to the products that we are selling. \u00a0Besides the kids, the stock and the crops, next in importance is the photos of those kids, stock and crops.<\/p>\n<p>Duke spends his spare time with Braden Schovanec clipping, setting up and photoing goats&#8211;for money. \u00a0People&#8211;that is a huge part of modern agriculture. \u00a0We, as buyers and sellers, have developed and cultivated this market.<\/p>\n<p>Common lingo heard in the present ag world.<\/p>\n<p>Look at pics on this phone. \u00a0Is he over-photoed? \u00a0Can you send me pics?
