{"id":1127,"date":"2015-10-27T00:10:12","date_gmt":"2015-10-27T00:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/?p=1001"},"modified":"2015-10-27T00:10:12","modified_gmt":"2015-10-27T00:10:12","slug":"the-hunt-is-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/kellnlivestock.com\/site\/the-hunt-is-on\/","title":{"rendered":"The hunt is on!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;One thing about the goat industry, the hunt for wethers actually lasts from March to November (or until nominations, validations or there aren&#8217;t any good ones left). &nbsp; The SW pig buying season is basically the last couple of weeks in October and the first couple of November. &nbsp;Although it is a shorter buying season, people make the same mistakes. &nbsp;They get the fever, buy too early, too big and then have to reload again. &nbsp;It helps drive the industry. &nbsp; It is scary to see how many online sales are going on any given night during this sales rush. &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A week ago Saturday, I drilled triticale seed. &nbsp; I&#8217;m not a farmer, don&#8217;t like it, but it is a necessary evil around here. &nbsp;One thing about it, a well timed 1.3 inches of rain while I was in KC makes even a meat-head like me look like a good farmer. &nbsp;We have a good stand and plenty of soil moisture to help it go for a bit. &nbsp;They can talk seedbed preparation, seed-to-soil contact and plenty of other technical terms, but nothing works as good as some moisture from Mother Nature. &nbsp;Our country needed a good drink. &nbsp;It was just right. &nbsp;I dang sure wouldn&#8217;t have traded with the Texans that are getting torrential rainfall amounts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Saturday evening, I looked off to the south from the carport. &nbsp;I noticed one lone doe. &nbsp;This was right before dark. &nbsp;All of the other brombies were already in the corral. &nbsp;Yep, sure enough, it was a recip that isn&#8217;t due until Nov. 4.
