Tuesday morning

We actually got a rain this past weekend.  Got an 1 1/2″ of rain early Saturday morning.  Good rain that soaked in.  Some places near here got over 3″ over a couple of days.  It was needed.

Had lots of traffic looking at goats this past weekend.  This was good and bad.  Good because I like showing goats and bad because I’ve still got plenty to do around the ranch.

I was leaving the nuts in three buck prospects, but now we are down to two.  The gimped up one is screwed.  We can’t get him healed up.  Oh well.  The joys of raising goats.

I’m going to take about 10 wethers and 2 doe kids to the Labor Day sale.  There will be a couple of Joe Dirt wethers, several Goofy wethers and one bad ass Rainman wether.  I have a really cool Joe Dirt x Showtime kid that I am trying to decide whether to sell him now or later.  I haven’t banded him and he is just now old enough to wean, but he has a lot of fans.  I’ve got till Monday to decide.  It will be elbows and buttholes flying on this weekend trying to get goats sheared, clipped and sorted.  Should be fun.  Might make me work up an appetite for a good cajun shrimp boil, or do you say it bawill.

Tyke’s been sticking to his guns.  Everybody that goes and looks at his tries to get him to price ’em, but he hasn’t caved yet.  It looks like all of his will be at the sale on Monday.  If you haven’t seen them, it is worth your drive to Woodward on Monday to see this set.

Anomaly

How is it that our TV stations, with all of the newest, latest, greatest technology, can show a radar map of a rain storm in yellow and red colors all over the screen sitting above the entire area where I live, the weatherman can point at this area on his map and talk about the good rain that is coming down in these areas, yet I walk outside and don’t get wet?  How does this anomaly occur?  At least, I didn’t have feed troughs full of wet feed.

It’s time for me to start thinking about the Best of the West sale on Labor day.  I’ve got to get my goats ready to go.  I don’t even know which ones for sure that I will be selling.  I do know that there will be a couple of Goofy wethers,  a Joe Dirt wether or two and for sure there will be a dang good Rainman kid.  He is out of a first time doe that is a Black Sabbath x H15, which would make her a twin to the Res. Div. 5 wether at Tulsa last year.  This is a good kid.

I’ve seen Tyke’s and Lamle’s goats within the past few weeks, and those guys are bringing a real good set of wethers and doe kids.  They actually know what they will be bringing.  Throw in Helms, Shafer and Morriss and this will be a really good set of goats backed with outstanding genetics and breeders.

Thursday night

Just crawled my ass inside from building another pen. I had ran a sprinkler on this area for awhile so I could drive the posts. Duke was watching “Smokey & the Bandit II”, so I thought I better watch the end of it with him. Classic characters. I like movies like this, I don’t learn anything but I’m in a good mood at the end.

Omaha

Made it to Omaha for John Deere new product intro. I enjoy coming to this as Deere puts on a good show and we get to see all of the new models of equipment. New balers, swathers, gators and more tractor models. Cool event and I actually learn something. It is dry up here, but it is still way greener than western OK. No, I haven’t looked at any goats and I don’t have plans to look at any. I am ready to get home so I can finish moving.

Rain, Cantaloupes and Mustard

Got to use my windshield wipers for just a few minutes on Saturday.  We didn’t get anything but a damn sprinkle.  Just enough to clean the windshield.  However, farther east towards Cleo and Enid, they got a dang good rain.  Nowadays, rain is kind of like going to the high school prom,  even if you didn’t get any, you are glad that somebody got some.

We made it to Susan Litzenberger’s surprise 50th birthday party.  Danielle had organized the event.  It was big fun.  Great weather, good people and good food.  Very well behaved crowd.  We must be getting old.  David was in fine form when we arrived.  He was offering guests his new favorite desertt.  Cantaloupe with mustard on it.  I tried it.  You want to know what it tastes like?  Cantaloupe with mustard on it.  I like cantaloupe and I like mustard, but I probably won’t be making that dish anytime soon.  Knowing Super Dave, I knew that there had to be a story behind this concoction.  There was and it involved a rough night in Vegas.  Typical.

I haven’t had time to watch much tv, I haven’t been on the internet much and I don’t read newspapers or listen to local radio very often, therefore I have been dodging a bunch of the political crap that is getting geared up.  Unfortunately, I did a little reading recently about our candidates for President.  I just want to throw up when I think about this clown that is currently in office.  I’m not a big fan of the other one, but definitely a better option than the current joke.  I pray that at least 51% percent of the voters pull their heads out for this election.

Friday

I always kind of liked the Friday movies with Ice Cube. Good humour, good story, not much thinking required to understand them. I really like this Friday evening. Another trap done. Stuff moved. Yard sprinklers on and the Dragon Lady and I sitting on the porch enjoying a nice Friday evening. Speaking of a Friday evening in OK, Duke just modeled his Shattuck football pads, helmet & jersey. Don’t know if he will be worth a dang or not, but he is wound up about it. Unfortunately for him, he has his dad’s calves. He needs wasp bit so his calves will swell up and look decent.

The Limp

There is nothing like a goat to have some unexplained malady. The shits, snotty nose, or worse, the limp. Every time I do chores, I scan the young ones and look for a malady. I will normally not doctor them immediately, because, a lot of times it is corrected by the next chore time. However, if it is serious, you better get right on it.

Last night, an 8 week old buck kid wasn’t moving very swiftly. He was carrying a back leg. No swelling, no fever in any joints, nothing visible. This morning. The same. Of course, it couldn’t be some scag that is bound for Perry sale barn. Those shitters never get hurt. They take up feed and stay common. No, it has to be a buck prospect. I don’t have a clue what is wrong with him. I’ve checked his hoof, in between his toes, joints, leg, etc. It has to be in his hip. I’ve doctored him. He will either get better or not. We will just have to see. Obviously, I will be in a good mood today.

Internet

We had a wireless internet system at Fairview. When it worked, it worked really well. Now, we are trying out new services. Trying an air card. Don’t know yet if it is going to work very well or not. Heard the terms of router and dongle used the other day. I don’t know how a wood working tool will help internet speed. Not sure what the hell a dongle is, but I think I remember an orangatan playing with his dongle at the zoo one time.

I kind of like the temps this week. Definitely easier on animals and humans.

Kelln Kompound

It’s starting to take shape. Weaned goats, does with babies, wethers, & Rumour Has It are all here. All we are lacking is the open does. They will be here soon. Had huge help on Saturday. My dumb ass was po-go ing around on one leg and wasn’t much help. Tyke, Dragon Lady, Bill Taylor, Tony Sessions & Daniel Kelln loaded goats, panels, feeders, sheds, etc. Six trailer loads delivered. Very good behavior by all. My uncle Jim, sister-in-law Jessica, and parents have been monster big help. We even had a birthday cake here today. Bree Taylor is a little bit older.

Owwww!!!!

Spending money…owww! Moving…costs money….double owww!!! Wasps… Holy jeeminy owww!!!!! None of this hurts as bad as the Dragon Lady sneaking up and slapping cold bacon on a wasp sting! I literally went blind, went to my knees, cussed & prayed… All in about 10 seconds. And I like bacon, but that hurt BAD!!! It took about an hour and a couple of frosty beverages before I could move inside. P Yes, I got stung again. This time on a calf. Some people pay for calf implants. I have one swollen for free. If it gets any bigger, it will look like one of Goz’s calves.
